Ketiga mahasiswa itu adalah Alvin Rahmad Widiyanto, Ulva Tri Ita Martia, dan Rahadian Abdul Rahman.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gas beracun yang dimaksud ini merupakan gas pemicu utama terjadinya gangguan atau penyakit pernapasan, seperti karbonmonoksida, nitrogenoksida, dan hidrokarbon. \u201cJika tidak ditangani lebih lanjut, maka keberadaan gas-gas tersebut akan semakin meruah di alam, karena aktivitas manusia yang tak luput dari kendaraan,\u201d tutur Alvin selaku ketua tim.<\/p>\n<p>Guna mengatasi masalah tersebut, lanjut Alvin, timnya terpikir untuk menciptakan katalitik konverter berupa reaktor atau tabung kecil yang berisikan lempengan kawat tembaga dan senyawa kimia padatan, katalis berupa Zeolit-NaY\/MnO2.<\/p>\n<p>Menurut Alvin, adanya tembaga dan katalis tersebut berguna mereduksi atau mengubah gas karbonmonoksida, nitrogenoksida, dan hidrokarbon tersebut menjadi gas kabondioksida, nitrogen, uap air, dan ion sulfat. Dari hasil pengujiannya, menunjukkan efiensi konverter yang sangat bagus, yaitu 92,18 persen. \u201cArtinya, sebanyak 92,18 persen kadar gas beracun yang telah berhasil diubah atau direduksi menjadi gas tidak beracun,\u201d imbuh Ulva.<\/p>\n<p>Menurut Ulva, kelebihan katalitik konverter ini mampu digunakan dalam satu tahun dengan masa satu kali penggantian bahan. Selain itu, bahan katalis yang digunakan berharga ekonomis dan mudah didapatkan di pasar bahan kimia pada umumnya.<\/p>\n<p>Inovasi yang dikembangkan tim ini, akan ditunjukkan sebagai bentuk karya penelitian pada Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional (Pimnas) ke-31 pada bulan Agustus mendatang. Harapan dari tim, bisa mewakili ITS di ajang perlombaan tersebut. \u201cKami sangat bangga ketika kami berhasil menjadi perwakilan ITS serta mendapatkan mendali emas kelak,\u201d tutur Rahadian, anggota tim lainnya.
