Pembantu Rektor I Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya Herman Sasongko justru menyayangkan sikap tersebut. Sebab, sistem UKT bukan ajang mencari untung universitas tapi justru mengakibatkan ITS mengalami defisit anggaran. Jika dibandingkan tahun lalu, defisit ini mencapai Rp39 miliar.<\/p>\n

Padahal, lanjutnya, ITS sangat membutuhkan dana tersebut untuk program pengembangan kemahasiswaan dan akademik. Keberadaan peruntukan dan eligibilitas Dana Bantuan Operasional PTN (BOPTN) hanya terbatas untuk dana operasional, bukan untuk pengembangan.<\/p>\n

”Nah, sekarang silakan ambil sikap. Tatkala almamater sedang kesulitan ini, apakah Anda sekalian malah akan menambah masalah?” kata Herman, seperti disitat dari ITS Online, Jumat (22\/3\/2013)<\/p>\n

Menurut Herman, mahasiswa memang memiliki kebebasan dalam menyuarakan pendapat. Namun, dia mengimbau agar mahasiswa memahami terlebih dahulu maksud dan dampak suatu kebijakan sebelum mengambil sikap. ”Mau mendukung atau menolak, silakan. Intinya, jangan mengambil sikap kalau tidak mengetahui,” tegasnya. <\/p>\n

Sebagai perwakilan mahasiswa, Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa (BEM) ITS akan memberikan wacana tentang UKT, hari ini Jumat (22\/3\/2013). Pembahasan ini bertujuan agar mahasiswa dapat memahami dengan benar apa itu UKT. Sebagai tindak lanjut, Herman bersama Pembantu Rektor II Muhammad Faqih juga akan menggelar Open Talk bersama seluruh pengurus Organisasi Mahasiswa (Ormawa) ITS khusus untuk membahas UKT.(rfa)<\/p>\n
