Meski dikukuhkan bersama, Shahab dan Darminto berasal latar belakang ilmu yang berbeda. Shahab adalah salah satu dosen Jurusan Teknik Mesin FTI sedangkan Darminto adalah dosen jurusan Fisika MIPA.<\/p>\n

Dalam pengukuhan ini, baik Shahab maupun Darminto berkesempatan menyampaikan orasi sebagai salah satu syarat menjadi Guru Besar.<\/p>\n

Prof Shahab membahas tentang Tinjaun Metalografis Perubahan Struktur Logam Akibat Pengelasan. Dalam orasinya ia menyebutkan jika keberhasilan suatu proses pengelasan tidak hanya dipengaruhi oleh pemilihan parameter, keahlian juru las dan kesiapan peralatan saja.<\/p>\n

"Tak kalah penting adalah kondisi internal logam yang dilas juga harus diperhatikan," terang Shahab.<\/p>\n

Lebih lanjut, pria kelahiran Lawang ini membahas pemanfaatan metalography untuk melihat perubahan mikrostruktur akibat pengelasan secara lebih spesifik. Ini berkaitan dengan berbagai fenomena yang terjadi ketika proses pengelasan.<\/p>\n

Sementara Darminto mengangkat Pengembangan Material Maju dan Cerdas Serta Upaya Pengolahannya dari Sumber Alam Lokal, sebagai bahan orasinya. Intinya, ia menekankan jika saat ini sudah saatnya mengembangkan material sehingga memiliki nilai jual lebih.<\/p>\n

Dalam kesempatan yang sama, dosen spesialisasi di bidang zat mampat ini juga menyakinkan para undangan untuk melakukan transformasi produk teknologi dari penelitian skala laboratorium menuju skala indutri. "Upaya awal yang dapat dilakukan adalah dengan kajian ilmiah," kata Darminto.<\/p>\n
