Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) kemarin mengawali rangkaian kegiatan masa Orientasi Mahasiswa Baru (OMB). Salah satu tradisi yang selalu mereka lakukan adalah mengundang prakrtisi untuk diminta memberikan ceramah. Tahun ini, mereka mengundang CEO Jawa Pos Dahlan Iskan.<\/p>\n

Di hadapan sekitar 4.000 mahasiswa baru yang memenuhi Graha ITS, Dahlan mengungkapkan bahwa pada 2010 nanti orang tidak hanya dituntut pintar. Tapi juga harus harus Fleksibel dalam menghadapi persoalan hidup. "Makanya, manusia jangan hanya terfokus pada satu bidang saja. Berusahalah untuk lebih memahami bidang-bidang lain," kata Dahlan. <\/p>\n

Menurut Dahlan, mahasiswa adalah bagian dari upaya membangkitkan dan membangun bangsa ini. Sebab, kemajuan sebuah bangsa berbanding lurus dengan jumlah lulusan dari perguruan tinggi, terutama lulusan perguruan tinggi teknik.<\/p>\n

Dia juga mengingatkan agar mahasiswa lebih kreatif. Tidak hanya berpikir bagaimana mencari kerja, tapi bagaimana menciptakan lapangan pekerjaan baru. "Harus diakui, saat ini jumlah lapangan kerja lebih sedikit dibanding jumlah lulusan sarjana. Makanya, kreativitas melihat peluang juga harus dikembangkan," imbuhnya. <\/p>\n

Untuk diketahui, total mahasiswa baru di ITS tahun ini adalah 4.310 orang. Dari angka itu, sebanyak 2.497 adalah mahasiswa S1. Termasuk di dalamnya tiga mahasiswa dari Papua Nugini. Jumlah mahasiswa S2 420 orang, termasuk di antaranya 6 orang dari luar negeri, seperti Al-Jazair, Sudan, Mesir dan Cina. Mahasiswa S3 ada 20 orang, mahasiswa program D3 sebanyak 630, dan mahasiswa politeknik sebanyak 710 orang. (ris)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
