Eka menyebutkan bahwa pada faktanya para penderita stroke beresiko mengalami deformilitas atau penyusutan otot. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Hal tersebut dapat terjadi jika si penderita tidak terbiasa melatih gerakan ototnya,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d ujar mahasiswa yang melakukan penelitian TA di Laboratorium Elektronika Medika ini.<\/p>\n<p>Berlatar alasan itulah, Eka mencoba memberi terapi alternatif penyembuhan bagi para penderita stroke melalui bantuan FESS, yang&nbsp; ide utamanya berasal dari Dr Achmad Arifin ST MEng, dosen pembimbing tugas akhirnya. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153FESS bisa juga dikatakan berfungsi sebagai stimulus eksternal pengganti sinyal otak,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d terang Eka. Hal itu lantaran penderita stroke bermasalah dengan saraf-saraf tubuhnya. Akibatnya, perintah dari otak untuk menggerakkan otot pun tidak tersampaikan. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Itulah sebabnya otot menjadi tidak dapat digerakkan,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d ujar pria yang mempunyai hobi olahraga futsal ini.<\/p>\n<p>Eka menyebutkan bahwa tujuan utama diciptakannya FESS adalah mencegah terjadinya deformibilitas. FESS sendiri dilengkapi dengan sebuah pengendali otomatis bernama Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inferenrence Sistem (ANFIS). \u00e2\u20ac\u0153ANFIS berfungsi mengontrol seberapa cepat gerakan yang akan dilakukan otot,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d terang mahasiswa angkatan 2006 ini.<\/p>\n<p>Kelebihan ANFIS adalah ia membuat FESS bekerja secara otomatis. Pasalnya, mikrokontroller yang menjadi salah satu penyusun ANFIS mampu menangkap sensor sudut <em>knee joint<\/em>. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Hal ini secara otomatis akan memberikan sinyal sesuai kebutuhan pasien,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d&nbsp; jelas Eka.<\/p>\n<p>Dari segi cara penggunaan, FESS terbilang mudah dioperasikan yakni hanya dengan menempelkan elektroda ke kaki penderita stroke. Elektroda itulah yang berfungsi sebagai konduktor dan kemudian akan menstimulus otot untuk bergerak. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Waktu pemakaian FESS disarankan tidak lebih dari tiga puluh menit,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d imbuh mahasiswa asal Banyuwangi ini. Hal tersebut bertujuan agar otot tidak berkontraksi melebihi batas kemampuannya.<\/p>\n<p>Menurut Eka, penyembuhan stroke tidak hanya dengan mengandalkan FESS. Mahasiswa yang juga pernah aktif di Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Elektro (Himatektro) itu menyebutkan bahwa FESS hanya berfungsi untuk melatih otot penderita stroke. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Perlu terapi yang lain untuk saraf penderita agar penyembuhannya berjalan paralel,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d ujarnya.<\/p>\n<p>Alasannya, jika terapi saraf maupun otot dilakukan bersamaan maka penderita bisa lebih cepat mengalami kesembuhan. Ke depan, Eka berniat melanjutkan penelitiannya tersebut ke tahap klinis.
