CTI-CFF adalah kemitraan multilateral dari enam negara yang bekerja sama untuk mempertahankan sumber daya laut dan pesisir dengan menangani isu-isu penting seperti keanekaragaman hayati laut dalam kawasan Segitiga Terumbu Karang. Keenam negara tersebut diantaranya adalah Indonesia, Malaysia, Filipina, Timor Leste, Papua Nugini, dan Kepulauan Solomon.<\/p>\n

CTI-CFF dibentuk untuk menjawab konsensus ilmiah yang menyatakan bahwa Segitiga Terumbu Karang merupakan pusat global keanekaragaman hayati laut. Dengan luas hanya 1,6 persen dari laut dunia, wilayah Segitiga Terumbu Karang adalah rumah bagi keragaman karang tertinggi di dunia dengan 600 jenis karang.<\/div>\n

Sumber daya yang tak tertandingi ini memberikan manfaat yang signifikan bagi lebih dari 360 juta orang yang tinggal di wilayah tersebut. Sebagai sumber makanan, pendapatan dan perlindungan dari kejadian cuaca buruk, kesehatan ekosistem ini sangat penting untuk dijaga kelestariannya.<\/div>\n

Sebagai kampus maritim, ITS dan UMT menjadi daya tarik tersendiri bagi CTI-CFF. "CTI-CFF ingin mengimplementasikan beberapa programnya yang berkaitan dengan penelitian masalah perubahan iklim, ketahanan pangan, dan perikanan. Untuk itu, mereka mendorong UMT dan ITS agar saling bekerja sama demi mewujudkan penelitian tersebut," terang Rektor ITS, Prof Ir Joni Hermana MSc ES PhD.<\/div>\n
