Ia juga menjelaskan aplikasi fisika yang ada di segala aspek kehidupan. &quot;Tidak hanya pada bintang dan planet, tetapi semua objek yang berputar dan jatuh,&quot; tutur Gerard.<\/p>\n<p>Guru besar di Universitas Utrecht Belanda itu juga memaparkan, temuan besar dari ilmu pengetahuan untuk fisika modern<em> <\/em>adalah piramida pengetahuan. Fisika teoretik berawal dari cabang ilmu mekanika klasik dan elektromagnetisme. Gabungan kedua ilmu tersebut membentuk ilmu baru yaitu relativitas khusus. Kemudian cabang ilmu elektromegnetisme dengan relativitas khusus berkembang menjadi relativitas umum. <\/p>\n<p>Sementara ilmu relativitas khusus dengan mekanika klasik berkembang menjadi ilmu mekanika kuantum. &quot;Mekanika kuantum kemudian berkembang membentuk teori <em>subatomic particle<\/em>, dan penemuan terakhir adalah gravitasi kuantum yang mencakup semua ilmu fisika teoretik,&quot; ungkap penemu teori gravitasi kuantum ini.<\/p>\n<p>Lebih lanjut, Gerard menjelaskan mengenai teori <em>superstring<\/em>. &quot;Teori <em>superstring <\/em>merupakan upaya untuk menjelaskan segala sesuatu dari partikel dan gaya fundamental yang ada di alam. Teori itu dimodelkan sebagai getaran kecil<em> supersymmetric string<\/em>,&quot; jelasnya. Dengan menggabungkan berbagai macam interaksi elektromagnetik, kuat, lemah, dan gravitasi, teori ini diharapkan bisa membuka sebagian besar rahasia di alam semesta.<\/p>\n<p>Gerard menambahkan, di kalangan peneliti terdapat perbedaan pendapat yang sangat bertolak belakang mengenai teori <em>superstring<\/em>. Semua peneliti yang antusias mendukung, membuat konferensi <em>great&nbsp;mathematical<\/em>. Namun di sisi lain ada kritik oleh minoritas kecil dari peneliti di lapangan. &quot;<em>Superstring<\/em> mengandung terlalu banyak asumsi yang tak teruji, dan tidak ada dukungan eksperimental langsung,&quot; aku pria berkebangsaan Belanda ini.<\/p>\n<p>Di akhir, Gerrard menjelaskan permasalahan utama dalam fisika teoretik. Ilmuwan di masa depan ditantang menyelesaikannya. Di antaranya adalah apa hukum fisika untuk benda yang berukuran lebih kecil dari femto (10<sup>-15<\/sup>mm) dan bagaimana tepatnya <em>big bang<\/em> bermula? &quot;Permasalahan lainnya ialah bagaimana kita menyelaraskan hukum mekanika kuantum dan teori relativitas umum yang dicetuskan Einstein?&quot; tantangnya.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. rer. nat. Bintoro Anang Subagyo, M.Si, Ketua laboratorium Fisika Teori dan Filsafat alam (LaFTiFA) mengungkapkan, riset-riset laboratorium ini mengarah pada penemuan-penemuan terbaru dari mekanika kuantum. &quot;Untuk itu dari kuliah bersama peraih Nobel Fisika 1999, saya berharap wawasan mahasiswa dan staf laboratorium bertambah dan terbuka sehingga muncul riset-riset yang lebih dalam tentang ini,&quot; paparnya.<\/p>\n<p>Ditanya tentang peserta <em>teleconference<\/em>, Bintoro menyatakan <em>teleconference<\/em> yang diinisiasi oleh kegiatan ICMNS FMIPA ITB itu diikuti oleh lima perguruan di Indonesia. &quot;yang mengikuti <em>teleconference<\/em> ada UGM, ITS, IPB, Universitas Negeri Malang, dan Universitas Hasanuddin,&quot; tandasnya.
