Kelima mahasiswa Teknik Fisika ITS ini awalnya tergerak setelah mengetahui masalah yang dihadapi salah satu pamannya.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&quot;Paman Indra adalah petani cengkeh. Karena bergantung pada cuaca dan luas lahan yang sempit, beliau mengeluhkan proses pengeringan cengkeh yang tidak berjalan maksimal,&quot; tutur Achmad Syarif Hidayat.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Padahal, kadar air cengkeh pasca panen cukup tinggi, yakni 70 persen dan harus diturunkan hingga 14 persen guna memenuhi standar internasional. Hanya dengan mengandalkan sinar matahari, proses tersebut memakan waktu lima sampai tujuh hari.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&quot;Petani tidak bisa mengontrol kualitas kadar air dalam cengkeh, karena hanya mengandalkan warna cengkeh sebagai penentu kadar airnya,&quot; ungkapnya.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Achmad menambahkan, terdapat alat pengering cengkeh yang saat ini sudah beredar. Namun, alat tersebut hanya memanfaatkan proses konduksi yang memiliki lekukan geometri sehingga mengakibatkan hilangnya panas.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Tim ini pun menginovasi alat tersebut dengan memberikan rongga di seluruh sisi alat dan 12 pipa melintang untuk mengoptimalkan perpindahan panas yang terjadi. Mereka juga menggunakan air sebagai media perpindahan panas secara koveksi.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&quot;Rekayasa ini dapat mempertahankan suhu alat dengan baik karena karakteristik air yang suhunya cenderung stabil,&quot; papar Achmad. Ia menambahkan, F2D juga dilengkapi dengan sistem otomasi untuk mengontrol suhu alat dan kadar air cengkeh serta <em>blower <\/em>guna membuat sirkulasi udara di dalam alat.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Tak ayal, setelah dilakukan uji coba, F2D terbukti mampu mempercepat proses pengeringan cengkeh secara maksmial. Untuk mengeringkan satu kilogram cengkeh hingga menyusut menjadi 650 gram, waktu yang dibutuhkan kini hanya 16 jam.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Meski menggunakan cengkeh sebagai bahan percobaan, F2D ternyata juga dapat digunakan untuk mengeringkan berbagai hasil perkebunan lain. &quot;Saat ini kami sedang berupaya untuk mematenkan alat ini agar dapat segera diaplikasikan oleh seluruh UKM yang membutuhkan,&quot; tutupnya.
