Daging ayam yang tersebar di pasaran mayoritas berjenis daging potong broiler dengan kadar kolesterol yang sangat tinggi.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Kami mencekoki ayam-ayam tersebut dengan ekstrak Ashitaba yang kami olah,&quot; terang mahasiswi semester akhir tersebut. Ekstrak yang berasal dari daun tumbuhan dengan nama ilmiah <em>Angelika keiskei<\/em> itu diolah melalui proses evaporasi. Sebanyak 60 ekor ayam digunakan untuk percobaannya dengan perlakuan yang berbeda setiap 15 ekornya.<\/p>\n<p>Perlakuan tersebut dibedakan berdasarkan konsentrasi Ashitaba yang diberikan kepada ayam, yaitu nol persen, lima persen, tujuh setengah persen, dan sepuluh persen. Dari percobaan yang berlangsung selama sebulan tersebut, didapatkan bahwa konsentrasi sepuluh persen yang berhasil menurunkan kadar kolesterol paling tinggi, yaitu sebesar 30 persen.<\/p>\n<p>Selain menurunkan kadar kolesterol, Kholilah menjelaskan ekstrak Ashitaba juga dapat menaikkan berat badan ayam. &quot;Dengan masa panen yang sama antara ayam broiler yang diberi ekstrak dan tanpa ekstrak ashitaba, ayam dengan perlakuan ashitaba memiliki bobot yang lebih besar,&quot; terang Kholilah. <\/p>\n<p>Kholilah mengaku, ide tentang ekstrak Ashitaba tersebut mereka dapatkan ketika tim sedang melakukan studi ekskursi ke Pulau Bali. Kala itu mereka mengunjungi salah satu lokasi wisata yang terdapat banyak tanaman herbal. &quot;Di situlah kami mengetahui tentang <em>Angelika keiskei<\/em> untuk menurunkan kadar kolesterol,&quot; terangnya.<\/p>\n<p>Hebatnya, penelitian tersebut berhasil menggondol dua penghargaan dalam International Engineering Invention and Innovation Exhibition (I-ENVEX) 2016 yang berlangsung di Malaysia. Penghargaan yang ia terima adalah <em>Leading Innovation Award<\/em> dari International Intellectual Property Network Forum Jepang dan <em>Silver Medal<\/em> kategori Health, Biotechnology and Chemical.
