Kesiapan tersebut ditandai dengan peluncuran kapal oleh Wakil Rektor bidang Akademik dan Kemahasiswaan ITS, Prof Dr Ing Ir Herman Sasongko, Selasa (23\/6). Dalam sambutannya, ia mengatakan menang bukanlah sebuah tujuan utama dalam proses pembelajaran ini. ”Yang terpenting adalah bagaiamana cara kita mendidik mahasiswa agar mereka berkompeten di bidangnya,” ujar Herman menyambut rombongan.<\/p>\n

Ditemui di sela acara, Muhammad Hapis, ketua tim menjelaskan terdapat tiga kategori lomba yang akan diikuti ITS. Ketiganya adalah Circular Course, Sprint, <\/em>dan Slalom<\/em>. Dengan kapal yang memiliki panjang 3,5 meter, lebar 0,8 meter dan 0.64 meter pada tinggi, Hapis optimis kapal tersebut dapat meluncur lincah di atas air.<\/p>\n

Bahkan, dengan fasilitas solar panel berkapasitas 100 watt-peak, kapal tersebut akan mampu melaju dengan kecepatan 3 m\/s atau setara dengan 5 knot. ”Selain itu, lambung kapal yang berbahan serat dan resin serta tambahan karbon juga membuat kapal ini lebih ringan,” jelas mahasiswa Jurusan Transportasi Laut ITS ini.<\/p>\n

Direncanakan, kapal tersebut akan dikirim ke Jepang pada Jumat (10\/7) mendatang. ”Kami hanya memiliki waktu satu minggu untuk melakukan instalasi solar sel dan kemudi. Kemudian seminggu sisanya kami harus sudah melakukan uji dalam air sebelum dikirim,” imbuh Andhika Estiyono ST, salah satu dosen pembimbing.
