Salah satunya adalah memanfaatkan energi dari panas bumi atau <em>geothermal<\/em>. Pemanfaatan energi <em>geothermal<\/em> tentu saja membutuhkan teknologi yang hanya dikuasai oleh orang-orang dengan <em>background<\/em> kompetensi tertentu.<\/p>\n<p>Menurut Yudi, mahasiswa dengan<em> background<\/em> pendidikan teknik geothermal, teknik mesin, teknik geofisika, teknik geomatika maupun kimia, sangat berpotensi menjadi orang yang mampu mengelola energi panas bumi. Pemanfaatan teknologi untuk mengebor energi panas bumi pun diajarkan oleh Yudi. &quot;Sayangnya, saat ini universitas dengan program studi Teknik Geothermal masih sangat sedikit di Indonesia&quot; ujarnya.<\/p>\n<p>Pemanfaatan <em>geothermal<\/em> sebagai energi alternatif adalah dengan cara mengumpulkan panas bumi dari magma sebuah gunung berapi. Pengumpulan panas bumi tersebut dapat dilakukan dengan mengalirkan panas pada fluida yang kemudian diperangkap dalam sebuah penyimpanan yang disebut reservoir.<\/p>\n<p>Dari reservoir, uap panas dikumpulkan untuk menggerakkan turbin. Putaran turbin akibat aliran uap panas dapat digunakan dalam menghasilkan energi listrik untuk&nbsp; kemudian digunakan masyarakat. Pemilihan <em>geothermal<\/em> sebagai energi alternatif merupakan pilihan tepat karena bersifat <em>renewable<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Panas yang digunakan untuk memutar turbin kemudian dapat diubah kembali menjadi air yang kemudian dapat dikembalikan kedalam reservoir. &quot;Air itu kemudian digunakan kembali menghasilkan panas yang kembali memutar turbin. Demikian seterusnya,&quot; terang Bakruddin, mahasiswa Pascasarjana Teknik Geotermal.<\/p>\n<p>Bakruddin mengaku bahwa pelaksanaan seminar tersebut, selain meningkatkan pengetahuan akan pengeboran panas bumi, juga bertujuan untuk mendorong perkembangan Jurusan Teknik Geothermal ITS. &quot;Saat ini Teknik Geothermal ITS masih merupakan penjurusan Teknik Geomatika,&quot; ungkapnya. <\/p>\n<p>Dari pelaksanaan seminar itu, Bakruddin berharap mampu mengembangkan kemampuan Teknik Geothermal ITS sehingga dapat berdiri sendiri menjadi satu jurusan baru di ITS. &quot;Harapannya, sesegera mungkin Teknik Geotermal menjadi satu jurusan baru karena sebenarnya cakupannya sangat luas dan sangat berpotensi besar untuk dikembangkan,&quot; pungkasnya.
