Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh delegasi dari beberapa universitas di Pulau Jawa dan sekitarnya. Universitas tersebut diantaranya ITB, UNDIP, IPB, UB, Akademi Pelayaran Nasional, UNESA, ITATS, Politeknik Perkapalan Negeri Surabaya (PPNS), dan Politeknik Negeri Madura (Poltera).<\/p>\n

Acara ini terdiri dari rangkaian kegiatan, yaitu pameran dan seminar kemaritiman, serta pelatihan kemaritiman untuk para peserta. Pameran dan seminar kemaritiman telah diadakan pada Kamis (20\/11) lalu, dihadiri oleh Menteri Koordinator Bidang Kemaritiman RI, Indroyono Soesilo dan Basuki Tjahja Purnama, Gubernur DKI Jakarta.<\/div>\n

Sementara itu, pelatihan kemaritiman untuk para peserta telah dimulai sejak Senin (17\/11) di Kampus PPNS. Para peserta yang tidak seluruhnya berasal dari bidang ilmu maritim pun dikenalkan ilmu-ilmu dasar kemaritiman, diantaranya pembuatan kapal, pengetahuan bahari, serta seamanship<\/em> yang terdiri dari berlayar, navigasi, mendayung, dan tali temali. Jumat (21\/11), bertempat di Pantai Kenjeran Lama Surabaya, para peserta juga berkesempatan untuk mengaplikasikan secara langsung ilmu-ilmu yang didapat, terutama ilmu seamanship<\/em> berlayar dan mendayung. Dalam uji coba ini, peserta menggunakan Kapal Merdeka, kapal asli buatan tim UKM Maritime Challenge.
<\/em><\/div>\n
Salman Utsman Balbeid, ketua pelaksana kegiatan, menaruh harapan besar kepada kegiatan ini. Sosialisasi IMC dengan konsep training ini diharapkan dapat menarik perhatian para peserta terhadap dunia kemaritiman dan ikut berpartisipasi pada IMC 2015 nanti. " Semoga kegiatan ini bisa ikut menyebarkan semangat kemaritiman kepada mahasiswa institut lain," harapnya.<\/p>\n

Ia mengungkapkan, IMC ini menjadi cikal bakal lahirnya pelaut handal yang dapat mewakili Indonesia di ajang internasional mendatang. Apalagi ke depan, kompetisi ini dapat pula diikuti oleh negara lain se-Asean. ”IMC ditargetkan dapat diselenggarakan se-Asia Tenggara beberapa tahun ke depan,” pungkasnya.
