Selain karena bertepatan dengan Hari Air Sedunia, SSC ini sengaja diadakan untuk menyadarkan mahasiswa ITS tentang pentingnya menjaga lingkungan kampus ITS. Hal itu diungkapkan oleh Muhammad Alvien Abror, Ketua Umum PLH Siklus ITS. Baginya, gelar Eco Campus yang didapatkan ITS juga harus mencerminkan sifat mahasiswanya yang peduli dengan lingkungan.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Dua tahun sebelumnya, PLH Siklus memang telah mengadakan banyak kegiatan terkait jumlah emisi karbon yang dihasilkan oleh kendaraan bermotor. Sekitar tahun 2012, mereka sudah melakukan sensus pohon yang dilanjutkan dengan perhitungan kandungan karbon setiap pohon pada tahun 2013. Dan SSC inilah yang merupakan tahap ketiga dalam proyek PLH Siklus dalam perhitungan karbon. "Ini adalah langkah awal kami dalam menjaga lingkungan hijau di ITS," tegas Alvien.<\/div>\n

SSC adalah seminar sekaligus pelatihan mengenai perhitungan jumlah karbon atau emisi gas dari kendaraan bermotor. Pelatihan ini didukung dengan hadirnya Dr Haruni Krisnawati dari Pusat Litbang Konservasi dan Rehabilitasi Badan Litbang Kehutanan.<\/div>\n

Metode pelatihan dalam seminar ini adalah dengan menghitung jumlah kendaraan yang ada di ITS. Dengan mengambil beberapa sampel wilayah, para peserta seminar pun dituntut untuk dapat menyesuaikan keadaan yang ada dengan perhitungan rumus yang diberikan. "Yang pasti pelatihan ini juga akan dibimbing oleh Dr Haruni yang sudah ahli dalam bidang ini," ujarnya. <\/div>\n

Alvien menuturkan, perhitungan karbon ini merupakan kegiatan yang sangat penting. "Hal ini karena emisi yang dihasilkan kendaraan bermotor inilah yang mempengaruhi perubahan iklim saat ini," imbuhnya. Untuk keberlanjutan dari diadakannnya SSC ini, Alvien mengungkapkan bahwa nantinya akan ada penyempurnaan buku mengenai perhitungan karbon. Buku inilah yang nantinya akan menjadi hasil akhir dari kegiatan perhitungan karbon yang sudah dirintis selama dua tahun lebih. <\/div>\n

Di akhir, ia berharap para mahasiswa yang mengikuti seminar ini nantinya dapat menularkan ilmu yang didapat kepada teman-temannya.
