Mencoba berinovasi, selain memakai bahan dasar kayu, para anggota UKM MC&nbsp; juga menggunakan bahan tambahan berupa bambu.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;Kami menggunakan teknik laminasi bambu,&#8221; jelas Rikki Styadi, Ketua UKM MC. Rikki menambahkan, pemakaian bambu hanya pada dudukannya saja. Sebab, bahan utamanya tetap memakai kayu.<\/p>\n<p>Pemilihan bambu menjadi bahan alternatif bukan tanpa alasan. Bahan ini dirasa mempunyai kekuatan cukup tinggi. Disamping itu, daya tariknya dapat menyaingi baja. Secara khusus, tim UKM MC pun memilih bambu yang berasal dari Sidoarjo, yakni Bambu Betung.<\/p>\n<p>Dengan panjang total 11,76 meter, kapal yang diberi nama Rojo Segoro ini bernuansa merah dan putih, melambangkan bendera pusaka Indonesia. Terdapat pula ukiran Sura dan Baya yang melambangkan kota Surabaya.<\/p>\n<p><em>Launching<\/em> Rojo Segoro pun turut menghadirkan beberapa tamu penting. Diantaranya, Pembantu Rektor (PR) I ITS, Prof Dr Ing Herman Sasongko, Prof Ir Daniel M Rosyid PhD sebagai pembina UKM MC, Laksamana Pertama Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI) Djoko Teguh Wahojo, hingga M Kaswin SE MM sebagai perwakilan dari Walikota Surabaya.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;Saya percaya, pendidikan calon insinyur yang baik harus sampai pada pembuatan suatu barang,&#8221; ujar Daniel. Selain Daniel, Herman pun turut menyemangati para anggota UKM MC yang akan berlomba dalam kancah internasional. &#8221;Yang penting adalah prosesnya,&#8221; ujar Herman.<\/p>\n<p>Sebelum akhirnya diturunkan ke air, Rojo Segoro terlebih dahulu diresmikan. PR I dan perwakilan Walikota Surabaya pun didapuk melakukan proses pemecahan kendi. Selanjutnya, kapal bertema Surabaya ini diuji coba di perairan Koarmatim. Para tamu penting pun berkesempatan untuk turut serta menaiki Rojo Segoro.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;Saya berharap nantinya yang mewakili Indonesia akan lebih merata,&#8221; tutur Rikki. Pasalnya, kapal Rojo Segoro buatan mereka adalah satu-satunya kapal yang mewakili Asia Pasifik dalam perlombaan ACI.
