ITS Campus, ITS News \u2014<\/strong> Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to expand its international partnerships in support of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven digital transformation. Through its Center for Industrial Development and Public Policy Studies (CSID-PP), ITS officially launched the 2U.CHAT x ITS Pilot Project a few weeks ago (9\/7) as the first step toward implementing an AI-powered platform to enhance learning, research, and multilingual communication within the academic community.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Held at the Department of Business Management, ITS, the event featured Philip Tam, Executive Director of Brighsun Group, and Simon Zhang, Director & Strategic Adviser of 2U.CHAT, as keynote speakers. The event was moderated by the Head of CSID-PP, Dr Ir Arman Hakim Nasution MEng, and was also attended by representatives from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Indonesia Blockchain Center (IBC), and Nusantara Digital University (NDU) for the signing of a Letter of Agreement (LoA), marking a strategic commitment to long-term collaboration.<\/p>\n

In his opening remarks, Arman emphasized that the pilot project represents an important milestone in introducing practical AI applications within higher education. According to him, collaboration among universities, industry, and strategic organizations serves as a strong foundation for building a sustainable innovation ecosystem. “Through this collaboration, students will not only become users of technology but will also have the opportunity to contribute to digital innovations that create meaningful impacts on society and the education sector,” <\/em>he stated.<\/p>\n

In addition to the pilot project launch, the event featured the official signing of a Letter of Agreement (LoA) between CSID-PP ITS, 2U.CHAT, MUI, IBC, and NDU. The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in education, research, technological innovation, digital transformation, and human capital development through the application of artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies.<\/p>\n

During the keynote session, Philip Tam introduced the vision of 2U.CHAT as an AI-powered super app that integrates communication, real-time language translation, a personalized AI assistant (My AI), and various digital services into a single ecosystem. He emphasized that AI development should strengthen global connectivity while delivering tangible benefits to communities. “Technology should bring people closer together without barriers of language or culture. Through 2U.CHAT, we aim to create a more inclusive and collaborative global communication ecosystem,” <\/em>Philip explained.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Simon Zhang highlighted the potential applications of 2U.CHAT within higher education. The platform enables students to utilize AI for group projects, communicate seamlessly with international peers, practice foreign languages, and collaborate across borders through real-time translation capabilities.<\/p>\n

Simon also encouraged the ITS academic community to become early adopters throughout the pilot project. He noted that feedback from students would play a crucial role in refining the platform to better meet the evolving needs of higher education. “This pilot project will start with 100 testers globally and will continue to grow as the collaboration progresses,” he added.<\/p>\n

Adding to this, Arman explained that the design and testing scheme of the pilot project were formulated and initiated by ITS. In the initial stage, the testing involves international students representing five language groups: Mandarin (Chinese), Arabic, Thai, Burmese (Myanmar), and Western languages. This test is conducted to evaluate the AI’s ability to understand linguistic characteristics, dialectical differences, and communication styles from various countries.<\/p>\n

“Going forward, the number of testers will continue to increase along with the strengthening collaboration between ITS and international partners. Trials will not only be conducted in Indonesia but also expanded to various countries as part of refining the multilingual AI platform we are jointly developing,” Philip concluded.<\/p>\n

In this project, each selected tester must not only master their mother language but also possess good English proficiency. This requirement ensures that testers can effectively communicate evaluation results, feedback, and findings during the trial process to project leaders and AI developers. Thus, every piece of feedback provided can serve as a basis for system improvements according to linguistic characteristics and user needs across different countries.<\/p>\n

Through this pilot project, ITS students will have the opportunity to experience the full range of 2U.CHAT’s core features while also exploring the opportunity to become 2U.CHAT Ambassadors, helping expand AI adoption and foster international collaboration through digital innovation.<\/p>\n

The collaboration between ITS, 2U.CHAT, MUI, IBC, and NDU is expected to lay the foundation for a sustainable innovation ecosystem that accelerates digital transformation, promotes collaborative research, and enhances Indonesia’s global competitiveness in human capital development.<\/p>\n

This partnership also contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education through the integration of AI in education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by fostering digital innovation, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strategic collaboration among universities, industry partners, and national and international organizations.
