Jakarta, ITS News<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) continues to expand its global role in supporting sustainable development. ITS is participating in the four-day Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2026, which runs until Wednesday (June 24) in Jakarta.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The international forum is a strategic step for ITS to strengthen its global network and learn from best practices from various universities worldwide. At the event, which was also attended by Institute Secretary Prof. Dr. Ir. Umi Laili Yuhana, SKom, MSc, CRP, ITS also introduced its various leading innovations that have a real impact on society.<\/p>\n

According to Yuhana, the person familiarly known as Yuhana, the experience gained in the international space can be crucial in improving the implementation of sustainability programs on campus. Various strategic issues were discussed during the event. “We also discussed sustainable education and development planning, digital transformation, renewable energy, climate resilience, technology, and other aspects to support the achievement of the SDGs,” Yuhana explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah Cahyadini, Head of the Institutional Reputation Unit of the ITS Quality Assurance Office, ST MT PhD, revealed that the collaboration focused on research and community service related to sustainability issues. “Some topics of mutual interest include microplastics, robotics technology, and waste management,” she explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah added that several universities participating in the exhibition are existing ITS partners. However, opportunities for developing new collaborations remain wide open, as the event is also attended by industry players and policymakers from various countries. This opens up broader collaboration opportunities in the development of innovation, applied research, and community empowerment programs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, the GSDC also provided a platform for universities to understand the latest developments related to measuring institutional contributions to achieving the SDGs. ITS gained insights into managing sustainability programs, strengthening the impact of community service, developing SDG-based research, and effective reporting governance during the series of activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the presence of various national and international partners, ITS showcased a variety of innovations resulting from research by its faculty and students. These included Lamusa Bahari, which supports fishermen’s productivity, REIDI, ITSpa Bath Salt, and Keraton Incense for aromatherapy. “ITS aims to demonstrate that educational institutions not only produce science and technology but are also capable of providing real solutions to the challenges of sustainable development,” said Yuhana.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this participation, ITS hopes to expand opportunities for international collaboration and strengthen the institution’s capacity to implement sustainability programs. Furthermore, Yuhana and the other delegates are prepared to enhance the university’s tangible contribution to realizing more inclusive and sustainable development.<\/span><\/p>\n

Concluding her explanation, Yuhana expressed optimism that the active participation of the ITS delegation would foster sustainable synergy for all parties. This is because current sustainable development challenges cannot be addressed by a single institution or country alone. “Therefore, cross-border collaboration is key to generating more innovative and impactful solutions,” she concluded optimistically.<\/span><\/p>\n
