Dosen Departemen Teknik Geofisika ITS Dr Ir Firman Syaifuddin SSi MT memaparkan dampak Lumpur Sidoarjo (LUSI).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Kampus ITS, ITS News \u2014 <\/b>Dua puluh tahun setelah pertama kali muncul di Porong, Kabupaten Sidoarjo, semburan Lumpur Sidoarjo (LUSI)<\/a> telah berkembang menjadi laboratorium alam yang menarik perhatian peneliti global. Memperingati momentum tersebut, Departemen Teknik Geofisika<\/a> Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a> menggelar seminar daring, Jumat (29\/5).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wakil Rektor IV Bidang Riset, Inovasi, Kerja Sama, dan Kealumnian ITS Prof Agus Muhamad Hatta ST MSi PhD menekankan bahwa fenomena ini tidak hanya meninggalkan dampak bencana, tetapi juga menghadirkan peluang besar bagi pengembangan ilmu pengetahuan. Menurutnya, LUSI kini telah bertransformasi sebagai laboratorium alam yang paling nyata dan terus berevolusi sehingga mampu menjadi global living laboratory<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Melalui forum bertajuk Dua Dekade LUSI: Dari Respons Darurat Menuju Tata Kelola Risiko Jangka Panjang<\/em>, Hatta mendorong seluruh sivitas akademika ITS dan perguruan tinggi Indonesia untuk aktif menghasilkan terobosan sains yang berangkat dari fenomena alam dalam negeri. Sebagai langkah konkret, ia mengusulkan penyusunan peta jalan pemanfaatan LUSI yang berkolaborasi dengan peneliti global.<\/p>\n

Gagasan tersebut mendapat sambutan positif dari akademisi dan peneliti Swiss Prof Matteo Lupi PhD. Dirinya menjelaskan bahwa LUSI merupakan fenomena geologi yang unik dan telah lama menjadi perhatian akademisi internasional. \u201cKeunikannya terletak pada keberadaan lumpur, hidrokarbon, dan aktivitas magmatik yang berlangsung dalam satu kawasan yang sama,\u201d imbuh Lupi, sapaan akrabnya.<\/p>\n

Dosen Earth and Environmental Science University of Geneva, Swiss, tersebut menambahkan bahwa berbagai studi internasional terus dilakukan untuk memahami dinamika LUSI secara lebih komprehensif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya kandungan gas metana, karbon dioksida, dan helium yang menjadikan kawasan ini penting bagi pengembangan ilmu kebumian global.<\/p>\n

Dari perspektif yang berbeda, dosen Departemen Teknik Geofisika ITS Dr Ir Firman Syaifuddin SSi MT menyoroti dampak LUSI terhadap kondisi permukaan dangkal. Firman menjelaskan bahwa semburan lumpur yang berlangsung selama bertahun-tahun telah memicu fenomena amblesan tanah yang kini mulai memengaruhi wilayah di luar area tanggul utama. \u201cFenomena ini tidak lagi terbatas pada pusat semburan, tetapi telah berdampak pada kawasan di sekitarnya,\u201d terangnya.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dampak tersebut bahkan mulai dirasakan hingga kawasan Tanggulangin yang berjarak lima hingga enam kilometer dari pusat semburan. Firman menilai perubahan morfologi tanah akibat amblesan berpotensi memicu perubahan sistem hidrologi regional dan meningkatkan risiko banjir hidrometeorologis di masa mendatang. \u201cPenurunan tanah ini bersifat <\/span>irreversible<\/span><\/i> dan dapat memunculkan kerentanan bencana baru,\u201d tegasnya.<\/span><\/p>\n

Seiring berjalannya waktu, penanganan LUSI telah mengalami transformasi dari sekadar respons darurat menjadi tata kelola risiko jangka panjang yang lebih terstruktur. Namun, masih ada berbagai tantangan yang harus dihadapi seperti pemeliharaan stabilitas tanggul, mitigasi dampak penurunan tanah, serta keberlanjutan tata ruang kawasan terdampak.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dengan sinergi antara akademisi nasional dan internasional, penelitian LUSI diharapkan mampu menghadirkan solusi ilmiah yang relevan bagi Indonesia dan dunia. Upaya pemahaman LUSI secara mendalam ini sejalan dengan Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) poin ke-11 dalam mewujudkan kota dan permukiman berkelanjutan serta poin ke-17 mengenai kemitraan global untuk mencapai tujuan. <\/span>(*)<\/b><\/p>\n
