ITS Campus, ITS News<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Indonesian Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) Prof. Brian Yuliarto ST MEng PhD gave a sermon after the dawn prayer at the Manarul Ilmi Mosque, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Saturday (9\/5).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In the special dawn study, themed ”\u00a0<\/span>Dawn, the 10 Days of Dzulhijjah, and the Power of Prayer<\/span><\/em>\u00a0,” Brian chose to discuss the most fundamental aspects of maintaining a relationship with God in an increasingly noisy world. “Sometimes we’re so busy chasing success that we forget to strengthen our hearts,” he said, opening the study.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his study, Brian highlighted congregational dawn prayers as a symbol of discipline and the strength of faith. He argued that building a nation cannot simply rely on intellectual intelligence and technological mastery.<\/span><\/p>\n

There’s a spiritual dimension that’s often overlooked, yet it’s the foundation of integrity. Knowledge can make someone intelligent. “But faith and closeness to God are what keep people honest when they have power,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Addressing the ITS community and the general public, he emphasized that universities should not merely be factories producing academically outstanding graduates. They should also be able to produce individuals with empathy and morals.<\/span><\/p>\n

This message feels relevant amidst the fierce global competition and pressures of the modern world, which often leave young people feeling lost. Brian stated that many people today experience mental exhaustion not because of a lack of ability, but because life has lost its meaning.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first 10 days of Dzulhijjah, he continued, are an opportunity to “recharge” spiritually. He encouraged the congregation to increase their good deeds, from voluntary fasting, charity, dhikr, and prayer. “Never underestimate the power of prayer. There are many things in life that cannot be solved with logic and hard work alone,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He then cited the story of the Prophet Zachariah, who continued to pray gently and hopefully even in his old age. From this story, Brian emphasized that prayer is not merely a request, but rather a form of faith that humans always have a place to lean on.<\/p>\n

For ITS, the study was more than just a routine religious event. The presence of a minister in the campus prayer room symbolically conveyed the message that scientific and technological development cannot be separated from humanitarian and spiritual values.<\/span><\/p>\n
