ITS Campus, ITS News\u00a0<\/span><\/b> \u2014 The Sapuangin Team <\/span>of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS)<\/span><\/a> is once again preparing to compete in the prestigious Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) Asia Pacific and the Middle East 2026. For this reason, one of ITS’s leading energy-efficient vehicle research teams officially introduced its latest car innovation, the Urban XI EVO 5, at a launch event held at the ITS Research Center Building, Friday (21\/11) afternoon.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The ITS Sapuangin Team’s Supervisor, Dr. Ir. Witantyo, MEng.Sc., expressed his appreciation to the ITS students for their continued commitment to innovation through the development of energy-efficient vehicles. “Hopefully, the ITS Sapuangin team can once again bring home the championship title in every category, both <\/span>on-track<\/span><\/em> and <\/span>off-track<\/span><\/em> , while also breaking the Asian record,” said the <\/span>ITS Mechanical Engineering Department<\/span><\/a> lecturer hopefully.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Ir. Dieta Kurnia, SH, MM, MH, Secretary of the ITS Student Parents Association (Ikoma), stated that the innovation progress achieved will further strengthen the Sapuangin team, which has been established for 15 years, to continue achieving success. “I’m optimistic that you can achieve your dreams of becoming champions, accompanied by your mother’s prayers,” the ITS alumnus asserted optimistically.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the same occasion, the General Manager of the ITS Sapuangin Team, Candra Ikhsan Suryana, in his remarks emphasized that this latest innovation is the result of the hard work and collaboration of all team members. The <\/span>ITS Mechanical Engineering Department<\/span><\/a> student is optimistic that the car with a 110 cc 4-Stroke engine will be able to deliver the best results and bring home the championship title at the prestigious competition to be held in Doha, Qatar on January 21-25, 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

Highlighting Sapuangin’s preparations for SEM 2026, ITS Sapuangin Technical Manager Abhirama Saka explained that the car, measuring 2,600 millimeters long, 1,290 millimeters wide, and 800 millimeters high, is the result of comprehensive development from the previous generation. The latest vehicle from the team, which carries the slogan “Mother’s Prayer,” has undergone various improvements. “Starting from the geometry of the steering system, reliability and thermal efficiency of the engine, to thermal efficiency optimization,” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, this latest car also features a reduced frame and body weight, as well as a reduced braking system weight compared to previous innovations. “We’ve managed to reduce the vehicle’s weight by around 10 percent, making it much lighter,” explained the 2022 student.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to structural enhancements, aerodynamics have also been improved to support higher fuel efficiency. With these updates, the ITS Sapuangin Team hopes that this latest car will surpass the previous generation’s 513 kilometers per liter performance at this international event.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, Saka stated that this innovation arose from an effort to address the challenge of increasing carbon emissions. This also demonstrates the commitment of the ITS academic community to supporting the achievement of <\/span>the Sustainable Development Goals<\/span><\/a> , specifically point 7 on Clean and Affordable Energy and point 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. <\/span>(ITS Public Relations)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
