ITS Campus, ITS News \u2014 <\/span><\/strong>The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS),<\/span><\/a> through its Humanitarian Task Force and the Manarul Ilmi Foundation (YMI), has once again demonstrated its commitment to humanitarian action by distributing logistical aid to communities affected by the Mount Semeru Hot Cloud Avalanche (APG) in Pronojiwo District, Lumajang Regency. The joint ITS team also conducted an initial survey to map priority needs and develop a long-term recovery plan.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The ITS Task Force Team consisting of Prof. Dr. Nurul Jadid SSi MSc, Herdayanto Sulistyo Putro SSi MSi, Arwi Yudhi Koswara ST MT, Ilman Harun ST MSc, and Failaqul Haq SKom MT together with the ITS YMI Team, Wednesday (26\/11), arrived at the affected location to distribute essential logistical aid. The aid was handed over to the refugee post at SMPN 2 Pronojiwo, which currently accommodates 373 refugees. “This aid such as mattresses, pillows, tissues, and blankets is really needed by the refugees, especially to ensure they can rest properly in this emergency condition,” said Yadin, Coordinator of the SMPN 2 Pronojiwo Post.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ITS team conducted a survey with residents affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru for the sustainable recovery program.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In this regard, ITS also expresses its appreciation to all parties involved in handling the Semeru APG eruption. The rapid response from the Social Services Agency, the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), TAGANA, BMKG, BPBD, and the Lumajang Regency Government was deemed effective in handling the emergency phase of the disaster.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond focusing on direct assistance, ITS also leveraged its technological expertise to map damage to residential areas and agricultural land. This mapping data will serve as a crucial foundation for rehabilitation and reconstruction planning. The initial survey also included an assessment of logistical needs and training opportunities for affected communities, which will then inform the development of the Disaster Response Community Service (KKN) program to adapt to field conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Head of the ITS Community Service Sub-Directorate, Prof. Dr. Nurul Jadid, SSi, MSc, explained that ITS will continue its support by focusing on economic recovery. “As a follow-up step, ITS will coordinate with local village governments to restore the economy of affected communities,” explained the professor, commonly known as Jadid.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the professor from the ITS Department of Biology, the planned program includes training for MSMEs and farmers to revitalize small businesses and restore agricultural land. This initiative reflects ITS’s commitment to helping communities recover independently, “not only through emergency response, but also through long-term recovery,” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n
