ITS Campus, ITS News \u2014 <\/b>Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a> continues to support national energy transition efforts, one of which is the penetration of ocean energy for the electricity system. In relation to that, ITS through the Directorate of Cooperation and Business Management (DKPU) in collaboration with PT PLN (Persero) disseminated the Pre-Feasibility Study (Pre-FS), Feasibility Study (FS), and Engineering Design (ED) Guidelines in order to support the penetration of ocean energy in the electricity system at the Novotel Samator Hotel Surabaya, Thursday (11\/9).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Professor of Ocean Engineering<\/a>, ITS Faculty of Marine Technology (MARTECH)<\/a> Prof Ir Mukhtasor MEng PhD explained that this guideline was prepared as an initial foundation for designing, studying, to building ocean energy. This guideline is also a strategic step in supporting the acceleration of energy transition in Indonesia. \u201cThis guideline is not only for research, but also for preparation towards a commercial direction,\u201d said Mukhtasor.<\/p>\n

He added, the guideline produced by ITS contains a complete analysis starting from location planning, technology selection, equipment design, to socio-economic, environmental, and financial aspects. With comprehensive technical details, this guideline is expected to be a common guide for the government, industry, and academics. “We want all parties to have a clear and measurable guide,” he stressed.<\/p>\n

In his presentation, the doctoral graduate from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada also highlighted the importance of Indonesia’s involvement in the international cooperation of the Ocean Energy System (OES). OES member countries have produced various guidelines and products, while Indonesia has not yet joined. “This guideline is the first step so that Indonesia can take a role at the global level,” he stressed, reminding.<\/p>\n

As stated in the National Energy Policy (KEN) and Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 22\/2017 concerning the National Energy General Plan (RUEN), the government has targeted the utilization of renewable energy (ET) in the electricity sector to reach 33.3 percent by 2025, 36.6 percent by 2030, 37.4 percent by 2040, and 37.8 percent by 2050. This target is strengthened through Presidential Regulation No. 112\/2022 concerning the Acceleration of Renewable Energy Development for Electricity Supply.<\/p>\n

Energy diversification measures, including the utilization of ocean energy, become an important strategy in reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. In addition, it also plays a role in strengthening national energy security. In supporting this, the study on the preparation of the draft Pre-FS, FS, and ED guidelines becomes a strategic foundation to accelerate the penetration of ocean energy in Indonesia. Ocean energy such as Ocean Current Power Plants (PLTAL), Ocean Wave Power Plants (PLTGL), and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (PLTPL), are seen to have great potential as environmentally friendly energy sources that can be integrated into the electricity system.<\/p>\n

Through this dissemination activity, the integrated study results were presented to the work units at PT PLN (Persero) and the general public. This guideline is expected to be a strategic reference in the development of ocean energy projects in Indonesia. This dissemination activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/a>, especially SDG 7 concerning clean and affordable energy. In addition, it is also in accordance with SDG 17 concerning partnerships for the goals. With this guideline, ITS hopes that the development of ocean energy can run more systematically while strengthening national energy security. “Hopefully PLN can be the party that leads in answering this challenge,” concluded Mukhtasor.
