ITS Campus, ITS News \u2014 <\/b>In order to support sustainable development, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a> held The 3rd Taiwan – Indonesia International Seminar Application and Research at the Auditorium of the ITS Research Center Building, Thursday (21\/8). Carrying the theme Low Carbon Construction: Research, Application, and Regulation, this activity is intended to encourage the broader application of low carbon construction in Indonesia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Director of the Taiwan – Indonesia Science and Technology Innovation Centre (STIC) Prof Jhy Chern-Liu stated that rapid industrial development also drives the increase in carbon emissions and greenhouse gases. This condition becomes a major challenge in reducing the environmental impact caused by the industrial and construction sectors. \u201cTherefore, low carbon construction becomes a strategic step to reduce its impact,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

He continued, low carbon construction itself is a development approach that prioritizes energy efficiency, the use of environmentally friendly materials, as well as minimizing the carbon emissions produced. \u201cThat way, development can proceed side-by-side with efforts to preserve the environment,\u201d he said, reminding.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Jhy Chern-Liu added that the application of low carbon construction itself can be done through three main steps. First, reducing the use of inefficient energy and resources. Second, by utilizing environmentally friendly materials, and lastly is by improving and developing green construction methods that are more effective and environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n

The Director of the Taiwan – Indonesia STIC Prof Jhy Chern-Liu delivered his remarks in the Taiwan – Indonesia international forum that discussed low carbon construction at ITS.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In line with Jhy Chern-Liu’s statement, ITS Vice Rector IV for the Field of Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Alumni Affairs Prof Agus Muhamad Hatta ST MSi PhD revealed that this forum is on the same path as Indonesia’s commitment towards Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in 2060. According to him, various policies are currently being promoted, including the optimization of renewable energy and the application of energy-saving technology. \u201cOne of them is by encouraging the use of PLTS* in government and private buildings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

This lecturer, who is familiarly called Hatta, also added that preserving the environment is the joint responsibility of all parties. According to him, the academic, industrial, and government sectors must synergize to support the application of low carbon construction in Indonesia. \u201cThere needs to be collaboration between academics and the government to achieve that goal,\u201d said this professor from the ITS Department of Engineering Physics.<\/p>\n

For your information, the Taiwan – Indonesia STIC itself is a consortium of three universities, namely ITS, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), and Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University (UKWMS) together with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) since 2021. This consortium focuses on research into the utilization of industrial waste as low-carbon construction material to support environmentally friendly innovation.<\/p>\n

Lastly, through this forum, ITS reaffirmed its support for several points of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/a>. These include point 9 related to industry, innovation, and infrastructure, point 11 about sustainable cities and communities, and point 13 related to handling climate change.
