ITS Campus, ITS News\u00a0<\/span>\u2014<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0As a technology-based university,\u00a0<\/span>the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0consistently strives to deliver innovative, beneficial work. Through the Lampu Nusantara (Lamusa) Bahari product, fishermen on the north coast of Lamongan acknowledged the positive impact of the ITS Lamusa Team’s visit on July 25.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Lamusa Bahari itself is one of Lamusa’s flagship products, designed to help fishermen optimize the light spectrum to maximize their catch. In collaboration with the Pertamina Foundation, ITS donated 40 LED-based lamps to a fishermen’s union in Lamongan in October 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

During a visit to survey and collect documentation for the Innovative Science and Technology Competition (KSTI) exhibition organized by the Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI), ITS was warmly welcomed by local fishermen. One fisherman even reported a 30 percent increase in catch.<\/span><\/p>\n

Responding to this, Lamusa Co-Founder Iwan Cony Setiadi ST MT acknowledged that his team has been conducting regular monitoring and communicating with the local fishermen’s union. Although the fishermen themselves acknowledged this directly, Iwan explained that increasing the catch is not the primary focus, as this also requires considering the vessel’s fishing capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, Iwan acknowledged that the primary benefits of installing these lamps are energy efficiency, time efficiency, and a longer lifespan. These lamps themselves boast an efficiency rating of up to 40 percent and a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours. “Furthermore, these lamps eliminate the time-consuming warm-up process associated with conventional ship lamps,” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

While not the primary focus, an increase in catches is possible, given that the lights are designed with colors that attract fish. This will then help maintain fishing productivity by saving energy and time. “The monitoring is planned to continue until December of this year, exactly one year after installation,” explained the lecturer from the ITS Department of Engineering Physics.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, Iwan emphasized that the successful implementation of the marine lights demonstrates the level of readiness and maturity of the technology. Going forward, the ITS Lamusa Team will strive to create a sustainable ecosystem by introducing it to various parties, including students, the private sector, the government, and even fishermen themselves. This will include product startup models and collaborative community service programs (KKN).<\/span><\/p>\n

This effort is ITS’s step in supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) points 7 (Clean and Affordable Energy), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). In closing, Iwan also hopes that more parties will become involved in supporting the welfare of fishermen in Indonesia.\u00a0<\/span>(ITS Public Relations)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
