ITS Campus, ITS News \u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting the advancement of the quality of the maritime industry in Indonesia. This is proven by ITS through cooperation with the international classification bureau from Norway, Det Norske Veritas (DNV), which was marked by the signing of\u00a0<\/span>a Memorandum of Understanding<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(MoU) at the ITS Rectorate Building, Tuesday (3\/6).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs ITS Prof. Nurul Widiastuti SSi MSi PhD revealed that there are many challenges that will color the maritime world in the future. Among them are related to\u00a0<\/span>Shipping 4.0<\/span><\/em>\u00a0, downstreaming of the maritime industry,\u00a0<\/span>advanced materials for ships, net zero emissions<\/span><\/em>\u00a0, and other strategic issues. “ITS as a higher education institution that focuses on marine and maritime technology must prepare the best strategy to face these challenges,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Building a long-term partnership with DNV is a real step taken by ITS in realizing these efforts. The Professor of the ITS Chemistry Department explained that this collaboration will provide many opportunities to strengthen the quality of ITS students and human resources (HR) through improving the quality of education and research.<\/span><\/p>\n

In more detail, Nurul explained, through this collaboration, ITS academics will gain access to DNV\u00a0<\/span>standards, rules,<\/span><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>guidelines<\/span><\/em>\u00a0to improve the quality of ITS learning, research, and community service (abmas). The opportunity to carry out practical work and internship activities is also widely open to ITS academics. “Technical training at DNV will also be obtained by young ITS lecturers,” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

The woman born in 1971 said that the academic community of ITS and DNV will maximize this collaboration to improve the spectrum and quality of services of both institutions. It is hoped that it can support the progress of the industry, especially the maritime world in Indonesia. “And welcome a broader contribution from ITS and its alumni in the global maritime world,” added Nurul.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, DNV\u00a0<\/span>Regional Manager Asia Pacific Energy System<\/span><\/em>\u00a0Brice Le Gallo emphasized that cooperation between universities and industry is a vital component. Through this cooperation, a strong educational ecosystem can be formed to build the industry. “Both parties together build a bridge of collaboration to continue to grow,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

DNV as one of the world’s largest classification bureaus is able to provide the need for real work experience to prepare ITS students to face the industrial world. On the other hand, Brice emphasized that the maritime industry, including DNV, also needs universities to provide innovation and strong human resources.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, Brice explained the importance of ITS student participation in achieving the benefits of this collaboration for the advancement of the industry. Therefore, ITS students must have a high sense of curiosity and take advantage of existing opportunities. “This collaboration is carried out for the benefit of students and in carrying it out also with students,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a concrete proof of the knowledge transfer that is the commitment of both parties, a guest lecture was also held featuring DNV\u00a0<\/span>Southeast Asia for Maritime’s Business Development<\/span><\/em>\u00a0Capt. Gustad Hormazdi. In his presentation, Gustad explained the importance of the decarbonization process, digitalization, and energy transition in the maritime industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

The collaboration between ITS and DNV is a real proof of ITS’s contribution in achieving\u00a0<\/span>the Sustainable Development Goals<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(SDGs), especially in point 4 on quality education and point 17 on partnerships to achieve goals.
