ITS Campus, ITS News \u2014<\/b>\u00a0Along with developments in the industrial sector, problems in an industrial system are also increasingly complex. This encourages the 206th professor of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a> Prof Nurhadi Siswanto ST MSIE PhD to study more deeply the field of system simulation science to overcome problems in the industry.<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The ITS Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering <\/a> lecturer conducted research that focused on modeling a system to solve more complex problems in the industry. System models are divided into two, namely deterministic and stochastic. \u201cStochastic models have parameters that are not fixed, so the application of simple models can no longer solve the solution optimally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Overcoming this, the alumnus of the School of Engineering and Information Technology, University of New South Wales offers a solution to solve industrial problems using an industrial system simulation model. He explains that this model utilizes computer models to mimic a dynamic system. \u201cIn this way, we can improve a system without changing the actual system,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

The head of the ITS Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering<\/a> for the period 2015-2024 added that simulation models are more beneficial because the risks that occur when using trial and error models can be avoided. \u201cBecause there is no change in the actual system, so there is no damage caused or stop the operation,\u201d said Nurhadi.<\/p>\n

With these advantages, industrial system simulation methods are often used in the fields of Operational Research and Management Science. Nurhadi explained that the problems solved by this method need to be adjusted in terms of the complexity of the problem and the development of computing technology. \u201cThat is what makes scientific novelty develop with the application of this method,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

To develop the novelty of his research, the Magetan-born man used industrial system simulation methods in evaluating dock allocation procedures in ports. He developed a new Discrete Event Simulation (DES) simulation model that can help ports optimize berth usage, reduce vessel waiting time, and increase productivity.<\/p>\n

In addition, in increasing his research contribution, this member of the ITS Quantitative Modeling and Industrial Systems Policy Engineering Laboratory is also active in helping in solving industrial problems at the government level to the community. Thanks to his contribution, he was appointed as Chairperson of the Indonesian Industrial Engineering Higher Education Organizer Cooperation Agency (in Indonesian terms, Badan Kerjasama Penyelenggara Pendidikan Tinggi Teknik Industri Indonesia, abbreviated and will be referred as BKSTI) for the period 2023 – 2026.<\/p>\n

Through these efforts, Nurhadi said that his research helped achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9 and 12. He also hopes that his research can contribute widely to solving problems in the industry. \u201cHopefully, through this method, the industry in Indonesia can develop and be able to reduce various risks of future problems,\u201d he concluded.
