ITS Campus, ITS News — Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) continues to support the existence of a platform for environmentally friendly innovation and creativity, namely through a prototype car competition powered by chemical reactions entitled the Indonesia Chemical Reaction Car Competition (ICRCC) 2026. The annual activity of the ITS Chemical Engineering Department was held at the ITS Robotics Center Building, Sunday (3/5).

Annisa Aniqah Rahmatillah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the 2026 Chemical Engineering Innovation Festival (Chernival), explained that this competition is part of the ITS Chernival series of activities. Although last held in 2023, this international competition is now being held again and is being met with great enthusiasm from its participants.

The student, often called Iqo, also explained that the goal of this activity was to provide a creative outlet and introduce the ITS Chemical Engineering Department. In this competition, participating teams innovated cars powered by the chemical reactions they created. “The chemical reactions here are expected to provide environmentally friendly power and be effective and efficient as an energy source,” she explained.

Furthermore, the competition itself has gone through several stages, including finalist curation, poster and video profile voting , and presentations and inspections before competing on the field. In the Race Competition , Iqo explained that each team’s car will be tested on a 15-meter race track with a target of 9 meters. “The car’s ability to run as precisely as possible within the specified distance and load is required,” he added.

The ITS Chemical Engineering student revealed that 13 teams had advanced to the finals and were eligible to compete directly. These teams included Stoichiomatrix from Diponegoro University (Undip), Reatics from Gadjah Madah University (UGM), and ITS itself. Iqo revealed that this year, ITS is once again fielding two of its flagship teams: Spektronics ITS with teams Spektronics 30 and Spektronics 31.

The overall competition results showed that ITS successfully secured the overall championship with Spektronics 31 taking first place and Spektronics 30 taking second place. This was followed by Reactics Antrasena from UGM in third place. “This is the second time that the ITS Spektronics team has won the overall championship title,” explained Iqo.

The two ITS Spektronics teams hope this achievement will encourage enthusiasm for superior research products from both the team and ITS, demonstrating their excellence as a technology campus. This is in line with thorough preparation over the past five months, including research and trial and error . “Hopefully, Spektronics can achieve even more achievements for ITS,” said Hadiyan Azka Ariaputra, Team Leader of ITS Spektronics 31.

This activity demonstrates ITS’s support for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), point 7 on Clean and Affordable Energy, and point 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Iqo also hopes that the participants will continue to develop their research and innovations in the future, so that they don’t stop there. “Hopefully, this activity can be sustainable and continue to improve,” he continued hopefully. (ITS Public Relations)
