Surabaya, ITS News — The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) remains committed to supporting regional development through the signing of a cooperation agreement with ITS, regional heads, and the East Java Regional Management of the ITS Alumni Association (PW IKA). The signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU), which took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Surabaya, outlined the utilization of ITS innovations for regional progress on Tuesday (August 11).
ITS Vice Rector II, Dr. Machsus, ST, MT, emphasized the importance of strategic collaboration between universities and local governments. This MoU serves as a means for ITS to expand its innovation reach to address real community needs. “This memorandum of understanding is a significant milestone for ITS in providing appropriate technology to the community,” he emphasized.
Machsus explained that the Campus of Heroes has a responsibility to consistently develop applied technology. The university’s research ecosystem is prepared to support regional potential and enhance national competitiveness. “With this research ecosystem and innovative products, ITS is ready to become a key partner for local governments,” he added.
Surabaya Mayor Dr. Eri Cahyadi, ST, MT, warmly welcomed the readiness of the university research ecosystem initiated by ITS. The Chairman of the ITS Alumni Association (PW IKA ITS) also emphasized that the alumni association, along with ITS, is fully committed to assisting regional heads through the advancement of appropriate technology.
The Head of the Human Resources Extension and Development Agency (BPPSDM) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Dr. I Nyoman Radiarta, SPi, MSc, emphasized that technological strengthening measures at the regional level align with the KKP’s priority agenda. Several strategic national work programs under the KKP, such as the Red and White Fishermen program, require contributions from university research.

As a fisheries company, his company is ready to collaborate with academics to create industrial and equipment independence in the maritime sector.
The signing of the MoU and the discussion at this national strategic forum affirm ITS’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including point 17 on Partnerships to Achieve the Goals. Furthermore, this activity also supports the achievement of SDG point 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. (*)
