ITS Campus, ITS News – Realizing Indonesia’s maritime potential, the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) is ready to become a pioneer in developing marine technology and energy. As a national energy company, PT PLN (Persero) Center for Electricity Research and Development (Research Institute) collaborated with ITS officially through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of marine energy, Wednesday (11/11), online.
Bambang Pramujati ST MScEng Ph.D., ITS Deputy Chancellor IV shows traces of the cooperation that has been and is being established between ITS and PT PLN. According to him, the collaboration between ITS and PT PLN has proven to be mutually related and mutually beneficial, as well as beneficial to the larger community.
Although this cooperation is not the first time this has occurred, several things were highlighted in the signing of the MoU this time. Bambang said that the marine energy sector is still not much engaged in research and research in Indonesia. “Besides, the MoU with PLN is practical for applicable things in the company. This time, the collaboration is more in the field of research,” he said.

He hopes that this research collaboration can build synergies to develop research and technology in the field of marine energy as an effort to realize new renewable energy (EBT). Continued by Agus M Hatta ST MSi Ph.D., ITS Director of Research and Community Service (DRPM), hopes that this collaboration will run on time and reduce our dependence on fossil energy.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of PT PLN (Persero) Puslitbang Ir Iswan Prahastono MPhil welcomed the research collaboration with universities. He said that the research collaboration with universities will increase the possibility of implementing the research that is being carried out.

“Thus, research is not just a work or a prototype but can be studied and the potential is produced domestically and then marketed,” said Iswan. He hopes that ITS can also help PT PLN in developing the capacity and competence of its employees in the future.
Reviewing Indonesia’s targets related to the distribution of EBT, Prof. Ir Mukhtasor MEng Ph.D., Head of the ITS Marine Environment and Energy Laboratory assessed that this research collaboration would grow even though it departs from a small research scale. “The focus of this research collaboration is in the fields of ocean currents, ocean waves, and thermal ocean,” he explained while reading the agreement between the two parties.
With a fairly large scope of marine technology and energy, this form of research collaboration can take the form of training, workshops, or other development assistance, such as technical guidance on technology transfer. As the chief executive in cooperation with ITS, Mukhtasor also hopes that ITS-PLN output can create joint patents to benefit both parties.

Not to forget, gratitudes for PT PLN’s trust in ITS was conveyed by Tri Joko Wahyu Adi ST MT Ph.D., ITS Director of Business Cooperation and Management (DKPU). The existence of cooperation that exists between the owners of tools and resources with ITS as a party that is willing to transfer the knowledge of their fields of expertise will develop types of cooperation in the future.
Quoting again the statement of his general manager, Harry Indrawan, Manager of Research and Technology of Power Generation and Primary Energy Systems of PT PLN, revealed that the use of EBT by PLN has not reached 10 percent will be closed soon if this research is carried out seriously.
“Because we have prepared the best possible system, whoever the policymakers, the research will be sustainable,” said Harry closing the agendas for signing the MoU. These agendas were also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Marine Technology (FTK) ITS Dr. Eng Trika Pitana ST MSc and the Head of ITS Marine Engineering Department Herman Pratikno ST MT Ph.D.
The agenda was continued with a seminar entitled EBT Development at PT PLN (Persero) and Marine Energy Development at ITS was also attended by EBT activist students from the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE) ITS Student Chapter. (qaf/far/ITS Public Relations)
