ITS Wins Runner Up in 2019 Gemastik

One of the gold medals was successfully achieved by the Loud Sky team who competed in the Animation category

ITS Campus, ITS News – The prestigious competition of the 2019 12th National Student Performance in Technology, Information, and Communication (Gemastik) held at Telkom University, Bandung has crossed its peak. The contingent of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) succeeded to close the night by winning the runner up title with a total of six medals.

11 categories are contested, namely Programming, Cyber Security, Data Mining, UX Design, Animation, Smart City, ICT Scientific Paper, Software Development, Smart Device, Embedded System and IoT, Game Development, ICT Business Development.

Hadziq Fabroyir SKom Ph.D. as ITS Contingent Leader at the 12th Gemastik explained that ITS contingent succeeded in bringing home six medals from the nine categories that were participated. In detail, there were three gold medals, one silver medal, and two bronze medals from a total of 12 ITS teams that going into the final round. “All teams have already put out their best and deserve the award,” he said.

For the gold medal, one of them was successfully achieved by the H3R0ES team from the Cyber Security category. They managed to be the best in dealing with the security case of computer and network systems, including those related to data security. Besides, the gold medal was also successfully achieved by the Loud Sky team by being the best in the Animation category. The creativity and innovation aspects of the animated movies they made were able to win the gold medal.

Other gold medals were also successfully achieved by the Teponli team who gave their best innovations in the Smart City category

The last gold medal was achieved by the Teponli team who competed in the Smart City category. This team was able to create a smart device by utilizing the Electronic Resident Identity Card (e-KTP) that can be used for various purposes. This certainly supports the East Java government programs which also has a vision in developing big data. “The work is highly qualified and can be applied in the wider community,” said the lecturer from the Department of Informatics.

Meanwhile, the silver medal was successfully achieved by the BMW team who participated in the Data Mining category. The bronze medal was successfully achieved by the Hash Slinging Slasher team from the Software Development category. Likewise with the Jastep team who also achieved bronze medals in the Smart Device, Embedded System, and IoT category.

In addition to winning medals in the main competition categories, the ITS contingent also succeeded to get the second-best award in the poster category through the Loud Sky team. Another award in the Programming category was also achieved by the Bukan Ramialeon team.

Despite winning many awards, ITS still has not managed to bring home the Samakbya Padhesa Widya trophy as the general champion in the 12th Gemastik. The points obtained have not exceeded the University of Indonesia as general champion with a total of three gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal.

The success achieved by ITS contingent this year cannot be separated from the role of the supervisors and also the supporter team who always give direction and evaluation, thus spurring all teams to give the best results. The presence of alumni who had participated in the previous year competition also provided positive energy for the participants with the idea and input given. “In terms of quality and technicality, I am believed that the work made by the whole team is complete and excellent,” Hadziq added.

In the future, preparations for encountering the Gemastik competition will be conducted in advance, so the results can be more optimal. There will be a direct guide system for the works that the participant made. The roles of alumni who have participated in similar competitions will also be intensified start from thinking about ideas or concepts at the beginning, making the programs and the media, and making presentations and demonstrating the work made.

The longer preparation time also allows for the internal selection so that the excellent works from students can be filtered. “Hopefully ITS will be able to get more maximum results in the following year and the works that have been made can make a positive impact on society,” he said.
