ITS Campus, ITS NewsInstitut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya is seriously increasing in global competition towards the World Class University (WCU), ITS has achieved Times Higher Education (THE) ranking or WCU 2019 ranking for the first time. With the entry of ITS in this rank, ITS succeed to compete with other best universities in the world.

THE is one of the most credible institutions in the world in presenting university performance data, especially in ranking top global universities. In 2019, THE re-issued the ranking of THE World Class University. In the WCU ranking this year, there are more than 1,250 universities from 86 countries that have won the top global position. These included ITS and four other universities in Indonesia.

In response to this, ITS Deputy Rector I for Academic and Student Relations Prof. Dr. Ir Heru Setyawan MEng, said he was quite proud and happy. Because for the first time ITS managed to enter this prestigious world ranking and make Indonesia famous.

Heru explained, ITS succeeded in passing important requirements in the ranking, due to the number of ITS scientific journal publications that were successfully indexed by Scopus or Web of Science had reached the target. “This is because there has been a significant improvement in the last two years,” he said.

Heru revealed that ITS increase scientific publications in several ways. One of the funds for research in the past few years has been increased to almost fourfold. “So that a conducive atmosphere rises from lecturers and students to conduct research,” said the ITS Professor of Chemical Engineering.

The Hiroshima University doctoral graduate in Japan added that to encourage budgeted research to run well, one of the strategies used was to allow students to become research assistants. “This research assistant is expected to be a driving force for research at ITS,” continued the man from Madiun.

Second, continued Heru, there was a Fresh Graduate scholarship given to students who had just graduated and performed well. Because new alumni tend to have good academic performance, they are expected to help increasing journal publications and this has been proven.

Heru added, ITS also provides incentives for academics who have successfully published well-indexed journals. In addition to this, ITS will also improve branding and relations with other global universities in order to strengthen the status of reputable universities.

At the same time, Times Higher Education also published the ranking of universities in emerging economy country categories. There are 442 universities from 43 countries that compete with four other top Indonesian global campuses, and ITS is firmly in position 251-300. While for the overall global ranking, ITS is in the position of 1001+. (dik/owi /Anjani /ITS Public Relation Officer)
