ITS Campus, ITS News — The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has once again made Indonesia proud through its achievements on the international stage. This time, the IRIS ITS robotics team won third place in the Middle Size League (MSL) category of RoboCup 2026, held in Songdo City, South Korea, for seven days, ending Monday (July 6).

ITS IRIS Team Leader Dwi Ananda Akbar explained that RoboCup 2026 is a prestigious international robotics competition that brings together the best teams from various countries. The competition features various categories, including the Middle Size League, which Team IRIS won. “This league tests the ability of medium-sized wheeled robots to play soccer autonomously,” explained the student, often called Nanda.

Nanda explained that his team had also developed a strategy for the competition, which was not only aimed at students but also at all levels. Facing teams from the Netherlands, France, and Japan, Team IRIS employed a defensive strategy, aiming for points in the first and second rounds. “This strategy was developed through observations from both the previous year and the qualifying rounds,” he explained.

Nanda further revealed that his team had been preparing for this competition for months, putting in the maximum effort. This challenging preparation included various research, trials, and continuous improvements to the robot system. The alumnus of SMA Negeri 1 Tuban expressed his gratitude to all his team members who worked hard until the end of the competition.

The ITS Mechanical Engineering student acknowledged that this achievement is a testament to the quality of ITS student research and innovation. The achievement of the 24-member team, with three supervising lecturers, is expected to contribute to Indonesia’s international recognition, particularly in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence.

This proud achievement aligns with ITS’s commitment to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also supports SDG point 9, which concerns Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Nanda also expressed his appreciation to those who have supported them in achieving this feat. “We express our deepest gratitude to all those who have helped elevate ITS and Indonesia to the global stage,” he said gratefully. (ITS Public Relations)
