ITS Begin the Joint-Degree Lecture with Mokpo National University

ITS Campus, ITS News – After having previously inaugurated its cooperation through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Department of Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Engineering of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) began the class of joint-degree program with Mokpo National University (MNU), Korea at the BG Munaf Hall of the Faculty of Maritime Technology (FTK) ITS, Monday (1/7). In the early lecture in the form of summer course that was held until 22 July 2019, this also presents two lecturers from MNU, namely Prof Sol Ha and Prof Kyung Seok Byun.

The head of ITS Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Engineering Department, Ir Wasis Dwi Aryawan MSc Ph.D., when giving the opening speech of the Joint Degree Program class in front of 29 students.

According to the head of ITS Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Department, Ir Wasis Dwi Aryawan MSc Ph.D., in this program for Undergraduate (S1), later students will study at ITS only for six semesters, and the remainder during the last two semesters will be spent on the campus MNU, Korea. When graduating later, the students will get two degrees at once, namely Bachelor of Engineering (ST) from ITS and Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) from MNU.

Wasis also mentioned that about 83 SKS (Semester Credit Units) will be given by ITS and 62 SKS will be delivered by MNU. In order to lighten it up, the students will also be able to do several credits that are given by MNU at ITS, before they depart for Korea starting from the third semester. “Therefore, we will also be inviting some lecturers from MNU to convey the lecture at ITS to fulfill the credits of MNU,” said Wasis.

In this inaugural program, there are 29 students who will join the program. However, Wasis mentioned that this program specifically will receive a new student candidate this year 2019 from the partnership and self-reliant Program (PKM) course as much as 40 people. In addition to this joint-degree program, ITS Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Department also open international classes that are relatively more open to collaborating with various foreign universities. “If through a joint-degree program like this, it is only tied to cooperation with one foreign university,” he said.

ITS Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir Adi Soeprijanto MT, officially opened the course of ITS Joint Degree program with MNU Korea.

Meanwhile, ITS Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir Adi Soeprijanto MT, admitted that this joint-degree program is an interesting thing for ITS. Usually, the joint-degree is conducted at the master program (S2), but this time it is conducted at the undergraduate program

According to the professor of Electrical Engineering, it will also have a good impact on the students. The reason is, they will also be able to get to know the outside world more rapidly and absorb the various knowledge and good habits from foreigners that can be re-applied in Indonesia. “Starting this year also, ITS open International class in 15 departments,” said the former head of the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) ITS.
