ITS Campus, ITS News – The Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) again recorded a proud achievement. This time, the ITS Barunastra team successfully won two champions in the 2019 National Unmanned Fast Boat Contest (KKCTBN) organized by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) for three days until Saturday (12/10) night.

The 2019 KKCTBN was participated by 63 teams from 30 universities. The contest is divided into three categories, namely Fuel Engine Remote Control (FERC), Electronic Remote Control (ERC), and Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV). ITS participated in all three categories.

This time, the ITS Barunastra team could only present their best achievements from the Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) category by carrying the Nala Evo Mark IV boat.

Khairudin Nawawi as General Manager of the ITS Barunastra team conveyed that the toughest rival in this competition is from Surabaya State Polytechnic (PPNS). “Nevertheless, our team has prepared this contest with the best possible,” said the student who is usually called Rudin when contacted via online messages.

In the ASV category, the first-day and second-day free trial sessions were utilized to optimize the Nala Evo Mark IV boat on the race on the last day of the race. In the free trial session, the team’s focus was on the adaptation of the boat and looking for the best time the boat could get during the race.

Not only focusing on speed, but the ITS Barunastra team also thought about the design of the boat. They paid attention to the details of the building on the boat (superstructure) and also other supporting content such as websites, videos, posters, etc.

“We are optimistic to provide the best results in race and assessment for the best design on our boat,” said the student of Ocean Engineering.

Rudin explained that the scoring system was taken based on the fastest time reaching the finish line smoothly without crashing into the track. If it hits the track, there will be a point deduction and if too many will repeat from the beginning.

According to Rudin, during the race, the Barunastra team encountered various obstacles. “There are some obstacles that arise during the race such as some races do not reach the finish line, communication has been interrupted several times, and the difficulty to increase the speed of the boat in a short time,” he explained.

However, Rudin continued, the Nala Evo Mark IV managed to get fifth order when conducting a trial race at around 10.00 local time. Within the 15 minutes provided, the Nala Evo Mark IV can go for about 15 seconds to reach the finish line and get the best final results supported by the boat mechanical design in the form of flow direction and the stable propulsion system.

This did not make the ITS Barunastra team had the upper hand. “We continue to improve the speed and travel time of our boat as much as possible, but the results are felt to be the most optimal and safe,” he said.

The struggle of the ITS Barunastra team finally resulted in the proud outcome. The Nala Evo Mark IV boat successfully occupied the podium by winning the second place in the Autonomous Surface Vehicle category and won the best boat design in the same category at the 2019 KKCTBN.

Rudin emphasized that the struggle of the ITS Barunastra team did not stop with this achievement. “We also continue to evaluate and improve to prepare for the upcoming competition,” he concluded. (Ion23/gayatri/ITS Public Relation)
