ITS Campus, ITS News — The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DTM) of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) held a training session on Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. The event, held in collaboration with PT LG Electronics Indonesia, aims to improve students’ competencies and prepare them to face industry challenges head-on on Wednesday (June 3).
The Head of the Thermal Engineering and Energy Systems Laboratory at the ITS Department of Electrical Engineering (DTM ITS), Ir. Ary Bachtiar Krishna Putra, ST, MT, PhD, stated that this training provided a platform for students to gain a closer understanding of the standards and needs of the HVAC industry. The event, attended by dozens of ITS DTM students, was designed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of the theory and its application in the professional world. “Students should make the most of this opportunity,” he said.

For your information, HVAC technology is the process of conditioning the air circulation within a space to maintain ideal temperature and humidity levels, maintain cleanliness, and distribute it evenly. This air conditioning is crucial for maintaining the comfort of building occupants or supporting the operational needs of a technical process. Therefore, a thorough understanding of this system is essential for aspiring engineers.
Together with practitioners from PT LG Electronics Indonesia, students were given insight into the fundamental concepts of basic air conditioning . Furthermore, participants also received hands-on simulations using LG Air Conditioning Technologies System (LATS) Load software. Through this tool, participants were actively taught how to perform cooling load calculations to accurately calculate the cooling load.

Furthermore, HVAC training presenter Yogi Pratama ST explained that this training prepares students to enter the HVAC industry. Through this training, it is hoped that students can expand into other industries that are related to HVAC. “Similar training to what LG is doing is very possible to be held in other departments at ITS,” said the alumnus of the ITS Department of Engineering Physics .
This strategic collaboration between ITS academics and the industrial world is expected to continue in the future to boost the quality of education. Furthermore, this concrete step is considered very much in line with efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), point 4 on Quality Education and point 17 on Partnerships to Achieve the Goals.
