Jombang, ITS News – Strengthening human resource (HR) capacity is key to building the economic independence of Islamic boarding schools. This initiative was promoted by the One Pesantren One Product (OPOP) Training Center of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) through Digital Marketing and Halal Product Development Training held at the Tebuireng Putri Kesamben Islamic Boarding School in Jombang on Thursday (August 27).

The training covers three main topics: Business Models, collaborative opportunities for Green Economy-based business development, and human resource development for business units. All three are essential foundations for building adaptive, value-added, and sustainable Islamic boarding school business units.

The Director of the ITS OPOP Training Center, Dr. Ir. Arief Abdurrakhman, ST, MT, presented Business Model material to provide an understanding of how a business is systematically designed and developed. Participants were invited to understand how a business unit creates value, determines consumer targets, develops products or services, and organizes the resources and activities necessary for the business to run effectively.

Understanding the business model is crucial for Islamic boarding school business units so that product development is not solely based on product availability but also considers consumer needs and market opportunities. This allows business units to have a clearer development direction and adapt to changes in the business environment.

Dr. rer nat Naasori, SSi, MSi, Head of the Character Development Section of the Directorate of Student Affairs, also presented material on collaborative opportunities for Green Economy business development. This concept provides the perspective that economic growth can go hand in hand with efforts to maintain environmental sustainability.

In the context of Islamic boarding school business units, the Green Economy approach can be applied through product development that utilizes resources more efficiently, waste reduction, utilization of local potential, and product innovation that has added value.

Collaboration opportunities are also crucial in developing these businesses. Islamic boarding schools possess the potential of human resources, communities, and business units that can be developed, while universities like ITS can contribute through knowledge, technology, innovation, and mentoring.

Meanwhile, the third topic, presented by Ira Dwitasari, ST, MT, a lecturer from the ITS Instrumentation Engineering Department, focused on human resource development for business units. Sustainable business management requires human resources with the skills needed to meet business needs.

Human resource development includes enhancing capabilities in operational management, marketing, service, product development, and adapting to market changes. Clear division of roles and responsibilities is also necessary to ensure business units operate in a more organized manner.

For Islamic boarding schools, developing human resources for business units can also serve as a learning platform for entrepreneurship. The knowledge and skills gained can be used to support business management and foster an entrepreneurial culture within the Islamic boarding school.

Through this activity, the ITS OPOP Training Center encourages participants to view business unit development more holistically. Business models serve as the foundation for business design, the Green Economy opens opportunities for sustainable business development, and human resource development serves as the foundation for professional business unit management.

The collaboration between ITS and the Tebuireng Putri Islamic Boarding School in Jombang is expected to strengthen the Islamic boarding school’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The knowledge gained through the training can be used to develop the Islamic boarding school’s business potential, increase product added value, and expand market opportunities.

Thus, training activities are not only oriented towards improving business skills but also support the development of an Islamic boarding school ecosystem that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically point 4 on Quality Education, point 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth, point 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and point 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production.
