ITS Campus, ITS News — The Deputy Governor of East Java (Wagub Jatim) Dr. H. Emil Elestianto Dardak BBus MSc reminded parents of new students (maba) at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) to continue to provide support to their children during their higher education. This was conveyed at the 2026 ITS New Student Parents Meeting held by the ITS Student Parents Association (IKOMA) at the ITS Graha Sepuluh Nopember, Saturday (12/9).
According to Emil, the success of the younger generation is not solely shaped by academic pursuits on campus, but also by family support. He emphasized that entering higher education is a crucial phase that requires parental trust and guidance.
When children start college, the former Regent of Trenggalek continued, parents do need to provide space for them to learn independently. “However, don’t let that space end up severing communication between children and parents,” Emil emphasized.

Meanwhile, ITS Rector Prof. Dr. (HC) Ir. Bambang Pramujati, ST, MSc, Eng, PhD, stated that the meeting, held routinely at the beginning of each new academic year, provides a platform for parents to better understand the educational environment at ITS. It also strengthens the synergy between the university and families in supporting students’ educational journeys. “We want parents to understand that student education at ITS is a process that requires mutual support,” he said.
Bambang also advised parents to give more trust to students in their learning and self-development during their time at ITS. He hopes parents can become ITS partners in supporting students. “Give them (the students) the trust to explore their potential and participate in various positive activities,” said the Professor from the ITS Department of Mechanical Engineering .

On the same occasion, Dr. Ir. Wahid Wahyudi, MT, Chairman of IKOMA ITS, also encouraged families to view college as a new stage in their child’s growth and development. He stated that the change in status to student status does not diminish the family’s role as a source of support. “Parents must remain present as a forum for discussion and support,” he advised.

Family support for students’ educational journeys also reflects the importance of a supportive environment for sustainable education. This enthusiasm aligns with the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Point 4, which focuses on Quality Education, by creating an educational ecosystem that supports students.
