ITS Campus, ITS News — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening research and innovation. This commitment is reflected in the achievements of researchers from ITS who have again won the prestigious The Hitachi Global Foundation Asia Innovation Awards consecutively in the 2023 – 2025 period, making ITS one of the universities with the most recipients of this award in Indonesia.

Throughout 2023 – 2025, a number of ITS researchers succeeded in winning awards in prestigious categories. In 2023, Dr. Sri Fatmawati S.Si. M.Sc. Ph.D. from the Department of Chemistry received the Outstanding Innovation Award and Prof. Drs. Ec. Ir. Riyanarto Sarno M.Sc. Ph.D. from the Department of Informatics Engineering obtained the Encouragement Award, followed in 2024 by Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Heri Kuswanto S.Si. M.Si. from the Department of Statistics who won the Encouragement Award.

Meanwhile, in 2025, ITS again recorded two of its researchers as award recipients. Namely Prof. Adi Setyo Purnomo S.Si. M.Sc. Ph.D. from the Department of Chemistry as the winner of the Outstanding Innovation Award and Dr. rer. nat. Ir. Ruri Agung Wahyuono S.T. M.T. from the Department of Engineering Physics as the recipient of the Encouragement Award.

Both ITS researchers achieved recognition from The Hitachi Global Foundation Asia Innovation Awards 2025 through superior research achievements. Adi, who developed his research titled From Pollutants to Protein: Novel Eco-Bioremediation Beads for Environmental Health and Food Security, offers a solution to convert waste pollutants into useful resources.

Whereas Ruri was recognized for his research titled Sustainable Manufacturing of Functional Nanomaterials-Based Sensors for Energy, Health, and Environmental Monitoring. In his research, Ruri developed sensors based on functional nanomaterials produced sustainably for crucial applications in the fields of energy, health, and environmental monitoring.

This award becomes a form of the highest appreciation from the Hitachi Global Foundation for superior achievements in Research and Development (R&D) in the fields of science and technology that encourage social implementation to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This achievement is in line with the 9th point of the SDGs, namely Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.

Responding to this achievement, the Director of Research and Community Service (DRPM) ITS, Fadlilatul Taufany S.T. Ph.D., conveyed that this acquisition is concrete proof of the excellence of ITS research which is innovative and applicable, as well as relevant to global challenges. “This achievement is a concrete manifestation of ITS’s mission in advancing humanity through technology,” said the lecturer who is familiarly called Taufany.

According to the lecturer from the Department of Chemical Engineering, ITS provides sustainable support for researchers through strengthening the research roadmap, facilitating internal funding, assisting international publications, as well as strengthening global collaboration networks. Not only that, Taufany also revealed that innovation consistency, collaboration strength, and research usefulness are the main factors that make ITS worthy of winning this prestigious award. “Not only on scientific excellence and novelty, but also focusing on the impact provided,” he emphasized.

Going forward, ITS targets strengthening research quality and competitiveness through the development of superior research clusters, increasing international collaboration, to accelerating the downstreaming of research results. “Not only maintaining achievements, but also expected to be a trigger for the birth of more ITS innovations with concrete contributions to sustainable development,” he concluded optimistically.
