ITS Campus, ITS News — Strengthening the synergy between industry and academia, the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) and PT Salam Pacific Indonesia Lines (SPIL) inaugurated the SPIL Research Center (SRC) on Tuesday (September 30). Located in the Department of Naval Architecture, Faculty of Marine Technology (FTK) ITS, the research center marks a new milestone in the development of innovation in Indonesian shipping and logistics.
In his remarks, Dominikus Putranda Romo Ganggut , General Manager of Human Capital & Corporate Affairs at PT SPIL, emphasized the importance of collaboration with universities to address the challenges of the ever-evolving logistics industry. He viewed this collaboration as a strategic step in expanding the reach of modern logistics research. “Synergy with ITS will generate innovations that benefit the industry and expand students’ learning opportunities,” he asserted optimistically.

Meanwhile, ITS Director of Research and Community Service, Fadlilatul Taufany, ST, PhD, emphasized that the SRC plays a crucial role in strengthening the university’s position as a research center. He also stated that this step aligns with ITS’s vision as an innovation-driven institution. “The presence of the SPIL Research Center will enrich students’ experiences while strengthening ITS’s contribution to the national maritime and logistics sector,” Taufany explained.
The SRC at ITS is designed as a collaborative center focused on utilizing cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve logistics efficiency. Furthermore, the SRC also offers joint research space, project-based internship programs, and scientific publications, all of which are expected to foster sustainable innovation.

Furthermore, the establishment of the SRC also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and point 17 on Partnerships to Achieve the Goals. Through this research center, ITS and SPIL strive to build an innovation ecosystem that can strengthen national logistics infrastructure and boost Indonesia’s global competitiveness.
