ITS Vice Chancellor IV Prof. Ir. Muhamad Hatta ST MSi PhD when opening the Indonesian Port Marina Forum at the Auditorium of the ITS Research Center Building
ITS Campus, ITS News – The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has established a partnership with SF Marina, a Swedish company known as a pioneer in dock and floating concrete products for maritime infrastructure, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday (September 22). This collaboration affirms both parties’ commitment to developing research, technology, and education in the maritime sector, particularly those related to marina design and technology.
The signing of this MoU is a significant step in strengthening Indonesia’s maritime sector, opening opportunities for broader collaboration in applied research, infrastructure development, and human resource training.

As part of a long-term collaboration plan, ITS and SF Marina Indonesia will also build the Marina Indonesia Research and Technology Center on the ITS campus. “This aims to support Indonesia’s Blue Economy policy, particularly in the development of the marine tourism sector,” explained Prof. Ir. Haryo Dwito Armono, PhD, Head of the Coastal and Port Infrastructure Laboratory, Department of Marine Engineering, ITS .
At the same time, an MoU was also signed between ITS and PT Asset Monitoring Teknologi Indonesia (AMTI). This company installs sensors to monitor the condition and health of buildings. This allows the sensors to detect and quickly shut down sensitive and critical equipment in the event of a disaster, such as an earthquake, to ensure the safety of building occupants. Through this MoU, AMTI hopes to collaborate with ITS on similar research applications and developments in dock and marina structures.

The signing of the two MoUs was part of a series of activities within the Indonesian Port Marina Forum, held at the Auditorium of the ITS Research Center Building. The forum, themed ” The Technology and Design of Marinas in Indonesia,” was attended by more than 100 participants from various backgrounds, including academics, industry practitioners, government representatives, port associations, and students.
As an archipelagic nation through which yachts from Australia to Singapore and Thailand pass, Indonesia has significant potential for developing marinas. The availability of marinas is key to developing world-class maritime tourism that can attract domestic and international tourists, create jobs, and support MSMEs. “The presence of marinas also contributes to the development of maritime infrastructure and the preservation of culture and the environment in coastal areas,” said Haryo.

This forum provided participants with the opportunity to hear presentations from experts and engage in in-depth discussions on the direction of marina development in Indonesia. This cross-sector discussion aimed to combine academic and practical perspectives, generating new ideas on marina design, technology, and sustainability that are relevant to Indonesia’s current and future needs.
The forum and MoU signing by ITS also support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) . These include SDG 4 on Quality Education; SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure; and SDG 17 on Partnerships to Achieve the Goals. (ITS Public Relations)
