ITS Campus, ITS News — The 132nd Graduation Ceremony of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has once again produced proud young graduates. This time, Alexander Weynard Samsico and Jasmine Angelia Suriawan successfully achieved the title of best graduates with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) at the undergraduate (S1) and applied undergraduate (D4) levels.
Weynard, a graduate of the ITS Informatics Engineering Department, successfully graduated with a near-perfect GPA of 3.96. For this achievement, Weynard was named the best graduate in the undergraduate program. The bespectacled young man explained that this achievement was due to his interest in computers and programming, which developed through his hobby of playing games.
This interest prompted the graduate, who entered ITS through the National Selection for State Universities (SNMPTN), to delve deeper into mobile and web development. Beyond just studying theory, Weynard is also actively involved in various application development projects, from website creation to mobile apps . He also participated in an independent study program at Bangkit Academy to further his knowledge and interests.
Furthermore, to share his academic skills, this Jakarta-born young man has been entrusted seven times as a teaching assistant since his third semester. He teaches courses such as programming fundamentals, database systems, operating systems, computer networks, framework-based programming, data structures, and mobile development. “For me, teaching others is the best way to continue learning,” said the graduate on the first day of the 132nd Graduation Ceremony, last Saturday (September 20).
In line with his interest in algorithms, Weynard’s Final Project (TA) topic also highlighted this. The 2021 ITS graduate solved the Sphere Online Judge (SPOJ) AND Queries problem using the Dynamic Programming Bitmask method. This approach allows for the storage of previous calculation results, resulting in faster processing and optimal program performance. “This algorithm is more efficient and allows for analysis of execution time and memory usage,” he explained.
Jasmine Angelia Suriawan successfully completed the student exchange program at La Trobe College of Australia with the highest grades.
Meanwhile, in the applied bachelor’s degree program, Jasmine, who will graduate on the third day of the 132nd Graduation Ceremony, Saturday (September 27th), also earned her place as the best graduate. The graduate from the ITS Business Statistics Department graduated with a GPA of 3.89 after four years of study. Born on September 20, 2003, Jasmine emphasized that being the best graduate is not only about achieving high grades, but also about the ability to develop oneself through diverse experiences.
During college, Jasmine was selected as a recipient of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) and participated in an exchange program at La Trobe College in Australia. She took courses relevant to her major, namely data analytics . “Since high school, I’ve loved logic and mathematics, and then, seeing the growing need for data analysts, I decided to pursue that field,” she said.

For Jasmine, the study abroad experience gave her new insights into data analysis and visualization practices, while also honing her adaptability in an international academic environment. “I struggled to adapt at first, but thanks to hard work and perseverance throughout the program, I managed to achieve the highest grades and rank first in my class,” added the avid mountain climber.
Jasmine’s TA not only reflects international achievements, but also reflects innovation and relevance to her personal experiences. Inspired by her online camera accessory store, she addressed sales forecasting using ARIMA and Feedforward Neural Network methods. As a result, Jasmine was able to build a mathematical model that predicts sales, thus minimizing the risk of overstocking and understocking .
The stories of these two top graduates are living proof that academic success is determined not only by learning ability but also by perseverance and the courage to explore opportunities. Weynard and Jasmine’s achievements also demonstrate ITS’s commitment to supporting the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4, which concerns quality education.
