The ITS ABU Robocon team won the Best Design and Kajima Award in the ABU Robocon 2025 finals in Mongolia.
ITS Campus, ITS News — The ABU Robocon team from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has once again achieved a brilliant achievement on the international stage. After winning the 2025 ABU Indonesia Robot Contest (KRAI), the ITS robot team representing Indonesia won the Best Design and Kajima Award at the ABU Robocon 2025 finals in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Sunday (August 24) local time.
ITS ABU Robocon Team Leader Hafiedz Rosyada expressed his gratitude for the award his team won in the Asia-Pacific robotic basketball competition. Hafiedz admitted he and his team did not expect to win the Best Design Award for the two basketball robots they designed. “We probably earned this award thanks to the unique design of the robot’s pass receiver and dribbling mechanism ,” he said.
Furthermore, according to Hafiedz, the superior design is due to the synergy between his team’s two flagship robots, Kuroko and Kagami. Kuroko is a 150-centimeter-tall basketball robot with accurate dribbling and shooting skills. Meanwhile, the 170-centimeter-tall Kagami robot is specifically designed to receive passes and shoot the basketball.

Furthermore, the robot team, named Rivera, was also awarded the Kajima Award. This award represents appreciation from a Japanese infrastructure sponsor. Although they didn’t win first place, Hafiedz expressed his team’s deep appreciation for representing Indonesia and competing alongside other countries in the Asia Pacific region.
The ITS Industrial Mechanical Engineering student also acknowledged that the level of competition in Mongolia was significantly different. Robots from other countries were considered far more agile and at a different level than their national-level competitors. “In this tougher competition, we focused on optimizing our existing basketball robots and increasing training,” he explained.

More than just the award, the Rivera team views this experience as the most valuable asset. Hafiedz emphasized the importance of the process in achieving ITS’s position at ABU Robocon 2025. “Awards are just ordinary worldly things; what matters most is the willingness to continue learning, developing, and the unwavering desire to win,” he emphasized, encouraging them.
Rivera’s success in winning these two international awards is clear evidence that the innovation and hard work of ITS students are capable of competing on the global stage and bringing honor to the nation. This also aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4 on quality education, which represents ITS’s commitment to providing the best education for students. (ITS Public Relations)
