Mokpo, ITS News — The Rector of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Prof Ir Bambang Pramujati ST MScEng PhD officially received the conferment of the Doctor Honoris Causa (Dr HC) degree from Mokpo National University (MNU), South Korea. The conferment, which was given directly coinciding with the MNU graduation ceremony, Thursday (21/8), also witnesses the strengthening of ITS’s identity and good name on the international stage.

Bambang believes that this award is not just a personal appreciation, but a form of respect for ITS’s journey in internationalization, research innovation, and real contribution to society in the eyes of world academic institutions. “This is the fruit of our collective work,” said Bambang proudly.

In the conferment procession, MNU President Prof Hacheol Song stated that the awarding of this honorary degree is a form of appreciation for the ITS Rector’s contribution in strengthening the relationship between the two institutions, especially since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2017.

This honorary degree in the field of Public Administration was awarded as a form of recognition for Bambang’s leadership and dedication during his tenure as ITS Rector. “We highly appreciate the interest and support that has been given, which played an important role in the development of our partnership,” he said.

MNU also considers ITS as one of its most valuable partners in international cooperation, with Indonesia holding an important role in MNU’s global cooperation strategy. Since establishing the partnership, the two universities have been active in academic and cultural exchange programs.

Responding to this, Bambang revealed that the leadership he carries out is a reflection of the synergy of the collective steps of the entire ITS academic community. “Every academic achievement we obtain is the result of working together,” affirmed the 13th Rector of ITS.

The professor from the ITS Mechanical Engineering Department is of the opinion that the award he received is a track record of the ITS – MNU collaboration, mutual trust, and recognition of ITS’s reputation and contribution at the global level. “Since then, we have continued to consistently nurture this relationship through various sustainable academic and cultural exchanges,” continued the man born in Yogyakarta.

The collaboration is based on ITS’s excellence in the field of marine and maritime technology, in line with MNU’s strategic position in the port city of Mokpo and ITS’s role as a center of maritime excellence. Real results have also been shown through the joint degree program of the ITS Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Engineering Department, academic exchanges, and collaborative research around maritime, marine, to smart port technology.

Bambang believes that this recognition is not the peak of achievement, but an accelerator for deeper and broader collaboration. In the future, cooperation will be expanded through joint degree programs in the fields of ocean engineering, digital technology, renewable energy, and the blue economy, accompanied by joint research, lecturer-researcher exchanges, and industry partnerships. “This is a golden momentum that is the motor of industrial and social development,” he said.

The ITS–MNU cooperation and the conferment of this honorary degree are in line with ITS’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) especially point 17, namely Partnership for the Goals. The partnership that has been established can open the door wider for cooperation with universities, industries, and research institutions in various countries.

The doctoral alumnus of the University of New Brunswick, Canada, is of the view that the Dr HC degree that has been obtained is an injection of motivation for the entire ITS academic community. “I hope this becomes a source of inspiration and motivation for ITS lecturers and students to be more active in networking internationally, to dare to break through boundaries, and to bring the name of ITS to the global stage,” he concluded hopefully.
