ITS Campus, ITS News — As proof of its accelerated contribution to society, the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has once again inaugurated professors for the fourth time in 2025. Officially, the five new professors were inaugurated at the ITS Professor Council Open Session at Graha Sepuluh Nopember ITS on Thursday (14/8).
Opening the session, ITS Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof Nurul Widiastuti SSi MSi PhD, representing the ITS Rector, expressed her appreciation to the new professors, bringing the total number of professors at ITS to 226. Nurul emphasized ITS’ optimistic steps to have a more positive impact on the broader community. “The inauguration of these professors will accelerate ITS’s goal of becoming a world-class university in the Top 300 in the world by 2030,” said the professor from the Department of Chemistry at ITS.

The inauguration ceremony began with a scientific speech by the 222nd professor of ITS, Prof Sigit Tri Wicaksono SSi MSi PhD, entitled Optimizing the Utilization of Natural Resources towards National Independence and Indonesia Emas 2045. “The utilization of natural stone powder waste as a hybrid composite material can enhance the mechanical properties of composite materials,” explained the professor from the Department of Materials and Metallurgy at ITS.
Continuing the scientific oration, the professor from the Department of Chemistry, Prof Yatim Lailun Ni’mah SSi MSi PhD, presented his scientific oration entitled Handling Hazardous Waste Using Waste Processing. “Integration with strengthening research and technological innovation can create sustainable waste management using organic waste as a bioadsorbent and carbon source for the production of activated carbon,” explained the 223rd professor at ITS.
Next, Prof Suprapto SSi MSi PhD from the Department of Chemistry at ITS presented his scientific speech entitled Chemometrics: Statistical and Information Technology Applications in Chemical Analysis. “This application offers benefits to enhance scientific development through data analysis to extract insights, detect diseases earlier, monitor pollutants, and optimize industries,” explained the 224th professor at ITS.

Meanwhile, Prof Dr Tutik Nurhidayati SSi MSi, was inaugurated as the 225th professor at ITS with a scientific oration titled The Role of Plant Physiology in Efforts to Utilize Suboptimal Land Towards National Food Security. “Plant physiology plays a role in enhancing national food security through marginal land technology and metabolic engineering via tissue culture,” explained the professor from the Department of Biology at ITS.
Finally, Prof Dr Ir Adhi Dharma Wibawa ST MT, from the ITS Medical Technology Study Program, delivered a scientific speech entitled Utilizing Brain Signals to Support Neurotechnology Innovation for National Progress. “This effort can help patients who cannot speak to translate what the patient is saying in their mind,” explained the first professor from the Faculty of Medicine and Health (FKK) ITS.

Closing the professor inauguration ceremony, the Chair of the ITS Professor Council, Prof Dr Ir Imam Robandi MT, emphasized his hopes for the new ITS professors. “The inauguration of these professors is expected to make ITS even more widely known for its benefits to society,” said the professor from the ITS Department of Electrical Engineering, hopefully.
The event that inaugurated the new ITS professors realized Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4, which focuses on quality education.
