New students walk to the location of the 2025 ITS Introduction to New Student Orientation Program (PKKMB) event
ITS Campus, ITS News — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) remains committed to producing students who are not only academically excellent but also socially and environmentally conscious. This commitment is realized from the first day students set foot on this Heroic Campus through the ITS New Student Orientation Program (PKKMB).
In this regard, ITS Rector, Prof Ir Bambang Pramujati ST MScEng PhD, announced a policy to support the ITS Smart Eco Campus movement. This policy is manifested in the prohibition of new students from using motorized vehicles, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled (cars), on campus during PKKMB activities. Instead, new students are encouraged to walk to the activity location as part of the ITS Walk program. “This policy, especially for cars, will be trialed for the next six months,” added Bambang.
To complement this environmentally friendly policy, new students are also encouraged to implement Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 12 on responsible production and consumption. This is realized through the obligation to bring a personal drinking bottle (tumbler) and sort organic food waste from its packaging. This initiative is supported by the provision of refillable water gallons throughout the activity area. “That way, an environmentally conscious lifestyle can continue,” he said.

Not stopping at environmental aspects, the ITS PKKMB is also designed to hone students’ social sensitivity. ITS Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof Nurul Widiastuti SSi MSi PhD, said that sustainability values are also integrated into the PKKMB. Through interactive games, new students are invited to learn about the 17 SDGs at 17 points scattered around the campus area.
More than just an introduction to campus infrastructure, Nurul continued, the ITS PKKMB also introduces each faculty, department, and study program. Students are allowed to understand the scientific profile and characteristics of each department so that they are ready to become strong professionals in their fields. “This introduction is important so that students not only know where they are studying, but also why they are studying there,” she explained.
To support the overall continuous learning process, ITS also introduced the myITS Learning platform. The Professor of the ITS Chemistry Department mentioned that this online platform provides various learning materials that can be accessed through the learning.its.ac.id page. “The available content includes interactive videos and practice questions as a means of learning evaluation,” continued the woman with glasses.

Not only intellectual strengthening, but character building also touches on the spiritual realm. Every morning, all new students from various religions participate in worship according to their respective beliefs as a starting point for forming pious individuals. “Strong spiritual values are the foundation for facing academic and life challenges,” said Nurul.
As the culmination and symbolization of its commitment to the SDGs, ITS released 1,000 Java sparrows into the wild during the new student inauguration ceremony and planted 1,000 trees by new students, which will be held in conjunction with the ITS XIII Lustrum celebration. “Small efforts will have a big impact if done collectively,” Nurul reminded.
The entire ITS PKKMB series also contributes to the achievement of SDG point 4 on quality education, point 12 on responsible consumption and production, point 13 on climate change mitigation, and point 15 on preserving terrestrial ecosystems. (ITS Public Relations)
