Surabaya, ITS News — Continuing its commitment to developing appropriate technology and innovation, the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) once again demonstrated its contribution by launching a Water Station at the Bogowonto Marine Field in Surabaya on Friday (August 1). ITS collaborated with Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) and was supported by the Indonesian Navy (AL).

This innovation emerged from cross-sector collaboration that prioritizes appropriate technology, environmental awareness, and a spirit of mutual cooperation. ITS actively participated in the technology and design development process and partnered with BSI through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program to support funding and implementation. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Navy Marines participated by providing a strategic location for the implementation of the innovation.

Fadlilatul Taufany, ST, PhD, Director of the ITS Research and Community Service Directorate (DRPM) , stated that the Water Station is not just a drinking water facility but also an effort to realize a healthier, more sustainable, and more inclusive future. “We believe that technology should be present in people’s lives, addressing real-world problems and acting as a bridge to reduce social disparities,” said Taufany, who is familiarly known as Taufany.

The lecturer from the ITS Chemical Engineering Department emphasized that the Water Station project demonstrates a commitment to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which is an integral part of character education and community service. “Through projects like this, ITS students learn not only about engineering and design, but also about empathy, collaboration, and social responsibility,” Taufany continued.

This project also represents ITS’s effort to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which align with points 6, 12, and 17 concerning clean water and adequate sanitation, responsible consumption and production, and partnerships to achieve these goals. Taufany hopes this collaboration can continue, including in various other areas that support sustainable development, technological innovation, and community empowerment. (*)
