ITS Campus, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) is consistent in being an institution that produces superior graduates. This time, the ITS Faculty of Marine Technology (FTK) won the Best of Academic Excellent Center in the Maritime Sector of the Year 2023 award from the Indonesian Shipbuilding and Offshore Association (IPERINDO), last Saturday (9/12).

For information, IPERINDO is an organizational forum for companies operating in the shipbuilding industry. This organization has the aim of mobilizing and developing the potential of the ship, offshore, supporting industry, as well as maritime services consulting and classification in order to meet domestic needs and be able to compete in the global market.

General Chairperson of IPERINDO Anita Puji Utami ST explained that the awards were given to several parties including the academic field. The assessment criteria include the largest academic educational output that contributes to the development of maritime Human Resources (HR), technology and business aspects in the national shipping industry. “FTK ITS is considered to have fulfilled these aspects,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FTK ITS Dr Eng Trika Pitana ST MSc said that this award itself shows that the contribution of FTK ITS is highly recognized nationally. One of them is because graduates from FTK ITS have spread and have had a positive impact on various maritime sectors in Indonesia. This can be seen from the large number of alumni who have careers in ministries and national and multinational companies.

To maintain this consistency, Trika continued, currently FTK ITS is also trying to reintroduce the best and oldest maritime faculty in Indonesia. “This step is an answer to the tendency for prospective students’ interest to decrease, while the need for quality graduates is always there,” said the lecturer at the ITS Department of Shipping Systems Engineering.

Not only that, this graduate of the doctoral program at Kobe University, Japan is also committed to continuing to support strategic research in the maritime sector. This is a tip to welcome the challenges of contemporary developments and to provide benefits to the nation and its people. “In addition to contributing to human resources, FTK ITS is also active in research and community service in the maritime sector,” he said.

Trika hopes that this award can further encourage the academic community at ITS to continue to make their best contributions in various existing sectors. “Hopefully there will always be good contributions in the fields of education, research, innovation, and community service for the nation and state,” he stressed.
