ITS Campus ITS News – The Nawasena Team of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has again made its name in the international arena. In the 2022 International Design Competition held by the World Ferry Safety Association (WFSA), the team from the ITS Marine Engineering Department successfully won the first ranking position which was announced online, last Wednesday (18/5).

The supervisor of the ITS Nawasena team, Dr. Ir Agoes Santoso, MSc MPhil, revealed that his guidance team has never been absent from participating in the design competition held by WFSA since five years ago. Learning from last year’s experience of having to settle for second place, this team continues to develop and strive to obtain the best results. “This achievement is the fruit of the students’ hard work and the assistance of all the ITS civitas involved,” said the Department of Marine Engineering lecturer.

One member of the ITS Nawasena team, Priscila Putri Irene, said that they designed the MV Lakhsmi ship design carried by her team to be able to operate on the Brahmaputra River in India. They also created the shape of the hull design to suit the area.

“To adjust to low water conditions, we apply double filter technology to the engine cooling system to prevent the entry of sand and the shape of the hull of the Landing Craft Tank,” explained the student, who is familiarly called Cila.

Cila continued that in this online competition, several aspects became the judging points of the judges. Among them are operating routes, ship construction, spatial arrangement, ship machinery and electricity, stability analysis, ship economic analysis, and innovations applied to this ship. “In the process, we continue to refer to the Terms of Reference (TOR) while developing the designs we make,” she said.

The 2018 class student revealed several challenges while designing a ship that could carry a payload of 112.9 tons. One of them is the adjustment of ship design to India’s needs and logistics aspects. “Many literature studies have been carried out to determine the availability of fuel and machinery to the size of motorized vehicles commonly circulated in India,” she explained.

Cila hopes that the ITS Nawasena team can continue to give their best performance in other competitions. For this reason, preparations have been made by his team to welcome the 2022 National Unmanned Fast Boat Contest (KKCTBN). “Preparations have begun, and we hope to get the best results,” she concluded.

The team, which was guided by Dr. Ir Agoes Santoso MSc MPhil and Dr. Achmad Baidowi ST MT, consisted of 13 students, all of whom came from the Department of Marine Engineering ITS. Besides Cila, the other members are Anak Agung Madya Kusuma Dewa, Reza Bagus Ramadhan, Ghavin Ghavyero, Rizal Izzudin Alqosam, Joel Herdian Seciawanto, I Wayan Attita Dharma Thandava, Dewantoro Abimanyu, Ipung Nur Wahyu Fadholi, Ari Nur Setyanto, Muhammad Raffi Adhitama, Andreas Mahendri Putra, and Audrey Betrisia Kusuma Putri. (ITS Public Relations)
