ITS Campus, ITS News – Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject has just released the results of the ranking of world universities based on the field of science in 2022, Wednesday (6/4). As one of the world-class universities, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has succeeded in increasing its ranking in the Engineering & Technology category.

ITS Senior Manager of World Class Affairs, Rulli Pratiwi Setiawan ST, MSc, Ph.D., revealed that there are a total of 51 scientific fields grouped into five Broad Subject Areas. Namely, Art & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences & Management in QS WUR by Subject.

In the assessment criteria, the ITS Urban and Regional Planning Department (PWK) lecturer also explained that this time, the QS WUR by Subject for the Broad Subject Area has five assessment indicators. namely Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citation per Paper, H-Index Citation, and International Research Network (IRN). “IRN is a new indicator for the Broad Subject Area this year,” she added.

Furthermore, Rulli said that each indicator’s weight in the QS WUR by Subject for the Broad Subject Area varies. For the Engineering & Technology category, the importance of each hand is 40 percent for Academic Reputation, 30 percent for Employer Reputation, 10 percent for Citation per Paper, 10 percent for H-Index Citation, and 10 percent for International Research Network.

In the release of QS WUR by Subject 2022, ITS managed to rank 277 for the Broad Subject Area category of Engineering & Technology. “This ranking has increased sharply from the previous QS WUR by Subject 2021 results, where ITS was ranked 401 – 450,” said this ITS alumnus proudly.

The Engineering & Technology category is divided into four more specific scientific fields (Narrow Subject Areas): Computer Science & Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic, and Chemical Engineering. “In the four scientific fields, ITS managed to enter the top 500 QS WUR by Subject 2022,” she said.

QS WUR By Subject in the Narrow Subject Area has a different weighting for each indicator in each scientific field. However, all types of scientific fields within the scope of Engineering & Technology have the same weight for each hand, namely 40 percent for Academic Reputation, 30 percent for Employer Reputation, 15 percent for Citations per Paper, and 15 percent for H-Index Citations.

Based on this assessment, in the Mechanical Engineering scientific field, ITS succeeded in being ranked 301 – 350 in the world and ranked 2 in Indonesia, where this ranking increased from the previous year, which was ranked 351 – 400. Being in the same rank, Chemical Engineering managed to return and entered the order after last year, separated from the ranking by Subject.

Then in the field of Computer Science & Information System and Electrical & Electronic, ITS managed to get a rank of 351 – 400 in both fields. This ranking increased compared to last year, which was only satisfied at 401 – 450 and 451 – 500 respectively.

In the future, to be able to continue to maintain and improve ITS achievements, building research networks at the international level is something that needs to be improved. “Congratulations to ITS!
