ITS Campus, ITS News – The prestigious national competition Statistika Ria dan Festival Sains Data (Satria Data) held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) ended last late November. This year, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) contingent succeeded to ascend to the second General Champion which was previously ranked III last year.

ITS Satria Data Coordinator, Nur Azizah SSi MStat, revealed that ITS successfully brought home four awards, making ITS the 2nd General Champion. Those awards are namely the 1st place in Statistics Essay Competition (SEC), 2nd place in Big Data Challenge (BDC), Best Presentation Statistics Infographics Competition (SIC), and Master of Theory National Statistics Competition (NSC).

Hosted by Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), the competition, supported by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) of the Ministry of Education and Culture, passed five ITS contingents in the final round. “The work that we have made is the result of the students’ hard work and guidance from the competition supervisors,” explained the woman who is often called Zizah.

In the SEC category, the winner’s work entitled Blood, Sweat, and Tears of the Front Warriors was the brainchild of Andrea Ernest, Ahmad Reyhan Abdillah, and Clarissa Putri Candraningtyas. This team admitted that the final preparation was done better and more mature than before, especially with guidance from the supervisor. “Successfully advancing to the final round is a difficult opportunity to come twice,” said Andrea, the team leader.

Other works that won titles were Plantation Exports Growing Fertility, Indonesia’s Prosperous Economy by Punky Dita Amelia, Brianita Rianasari, and Paskalis Sinurat. The following achievement was from the BDC category with Gender Classification and Age Prediction Based on Facial Photos Using Deep Learning won by Dava Aditya Jauhar, Christopher Adrian Kusuma, and Prima Secondary Ramadhan.

Finally, the work entitled Modeling the Factors Affecting the Number of International Tourist Visits in Indonesia in 2015-2020 Using Panel Data Regression by Melliyuma Miyoze.

Zizah explained that ITS’s achievements at Satria Data this year have increased. The previous year, ITS won the 3rd General Champion, and this year it jumped in 2nd position. “Through this competition, not only academic abilities are honed, but also soft skills that will be useful in the future,” she explained.

Furthermore, the mentoring process is carried out optimally from the initial preparation to the final round. This year, ITS prepared a basecamp for the finalists of the competition. The basecamp was held for five days with the aim that the finalists could focus on preparing for the final round and receive intensive guidance from their supervisors.

In the contingents’ basecamp, the supervisors gave materials to equip the finalists that will face the final round, starting from making PowerPoint Presentations (PPT), delivering good presentations, to tips for meeting the competition’s finals. “Before the D-day, they also provided the finalists the materials on relaxation so that they were ready both mentally and academically,” she said

ITS expects that this achievement doesn’t only stop here. They hope that the finalists can transfer knowledge to ITS participants in this competition’s future. The regeneration is ready to participate in the Satria Data event competition every year and is highly anticipated for their work. “Hopefully, next year, ITS can win General Champion I,” she said hopefully.
