The Croc Warship by lecturer The Departement of Marine Engineering, Ir Wisnu Wardhana MSc PhD

ITS Campus, ITS News – as the largest maritime country in the world, Indonesia is in the proper order to have strong maritime defense and security to enforce its sovereignty. Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) soon completed the creation of The Croc, a sophisticated warship that could turn into three modes at a time this year.

The ship’s designer, Ir Wisnu Wardhana, MSc Ph.D., mentions if the ship’s process has reached 90 percent. The ship, equipped with two 350 horsepower machines, is quite slim in size, 12 meters in length and only 3 meters in width.

The ship that began to be designed from 2011 this year, according to Wisnu, can be transformed into three modes; submarine, hydrofoil vessel, and ordinary vessels in general. “Of course, it was successful to become a new invention in the international shipping world,” this lecturer of The Departement of Marine Engineering proudly claimed.

As Wisnu explained, its hydrofoil vessel is a vessel that has a wing-like section paired to a buffer under the hull of a ship. When the vessel increases its speed, the hydrofoil vessel can create a lifting style that makes its hull lifted and out of the water. “So the ship looks like drifting,” he added.

Made of aluminum, said Wisnu, the ship has been designed to have a fairly lightweight in order to drift, while the wings themselves are made of carbon steel. When used as a submarine, water is inserted into the vessel to lower its position. “It can also reach ten meters of depth,” he said.

During the dive, Wisnu continued, the speed of the vessel can reach 15 knots. In hydrofoil mode, the speed can reach 35 to 45 knots. Wisnu reveals that the ship is suitable for use as a reconnaissance vessel that can be used to arrest fish thieves in Indonesian waters.

The reason is, the fish thief ship will not know the coming of this warship when in submarine mode, so that the thief will not running when The Croc is coming. In the manufacturing process, Wisnu also collaborated with the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL), the Ministry of Research and Technology (Kemenristek), and several other parties.

Hopefully, The Croc as an artificial warship in the country can assist in maintaining the defense and security of the unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Like smuggling or theft that often occurs in Indonesian waters. (sof/rev/ITS Public Realtions)
